About us

AMUST is a multicultural community newspaper in print and online presenting community news and views. On the Australian media landscape, in addition to mainstream newspapers and other media outlets, there are a large number of ethnic and multilingual community newspapers representing the Australian multicultural community. However there is no credible newspaper currently produced professionally in Australia with a wide circulation amongst all Australians presenting news and views from an Islamic perspective as well as serving the needs of the fast growing, and diverse Muslim community whose first language now is English. AMUST aims to fill this gap, by using multimedia technologies in the following formats: Monthly Newspaper: Monthly full colour print editions published on the first Friday of every month and distributed through newsagents throughout Australia in general and Sydney in particular. It will also be available at Mosques and Islamic centres, business outlets and posted to organisations and subscribers in Australia and overseas. It will also be available for on-line reading on computers as well as via an app on mobile phones and other smart devices. Frequent Website updates: AMUST website will be frequently updated with latest news together with photos and videos and upcoming community events. Periodic Email Newsletters: Multimedia emails will be send to subscribers registered with AMUST on a regular basis highlighting latest news and community event. Social Media Forums: AMUST will have presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ YouTube etc for networking, comments and discussion. Mass Distribution: AMUST will be distributed in tens of thousands at community Mega-events and festivals such as Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair MEFF by way of strategic alliance.

In the wake of Gaza’s destruction, the prospect of rebuilding brings both hope and challenges. A report by Christopher Busby [1] highlights nuclear material present in the debris left behind, creating a long-term public health risks. This contamination could make redevelopment, especially tourism-driven projects like beachfront resorts, dangerous for both workers and future visitors. Instead of simply restoring structures, the priority must be to restore safety and dignity to Gaza, a vision best realised through Palestinian-led efforts. Investors who might be enticed by the idea of resort development on Gaza’s scenic coastline should weigh the ethical and practical implications. For a region likely dealing with hazardous nuclear contamination, building resorts poses potential health risks to future guests, possibly undermining any appeal the development could hold. Moreover, the repercussions for construction workers are severe. Exposing them to nuclear-laced rubble could lead to long-term health issues, jeopardising their futures and that of their families. 🔗 Read More - https://lnkd.in/gFig8uMw #rebuildgaza #gazaresilience #publichealthrisks #nuclearcontamination #ethicalinvestment #palestinianledrecovery #safereconstruction #humanitarianpriorities

During his keynote address, at Sir Syed Day celebrations in Sydney held on Saturday 9 November 2024, Dr Abulkhair Jalauddin rested the concerns of Muslims regarding the Islamic permissibility of higher education loans since they are indexed with CPI and WPI without involving interest. Dr Jalaluddin, an Islamic financial expert, taxation advisor and a regular columnist of AMUST said that in Australia, higher education financial support is provided by the Federal Government through Higher Education Contributions Scheme (HECS) and Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) and since these are indexed to the rate of inflation and no interest is charged, there is no concern to be non-permissible in Islam. “There have been issues raised in relation to higher education loan measures in the Federal Budget 2023-24 where the Government has made changes around how the higher education loans are indexed. This indexation is capped at the lower of the consumer price index (CPI) and wage price index (WPI) where the former refers to the general increase at the macroeconomic level prices and the latter measures the annual growth of salaries and wages,” Dr Jalaluddin said. He further clarified saying, “This indexation rule has been back-dated to 1 June 2023 and no interest is involved in this indexation of higher education loans in the Federal Budget measures for 2023-24. The indexation rate is applied on 1 June each year to the balance of higher education debts that have been unpaid for more than 11 months. 🔗 Read More - https://lnkd.in/g9apabFB #islamicfinance #highereducationloans #hecsandhelp #australianmuslims #islamicpermissibility #cpiandwpi #educationfunding #drabulkhairjalaluddin
