  • ‘The way we look after children who are vulnerable and at risk is so, so important, and it’s reflective of us as a society.’ For 50 years, Anglicare has witnessed God’s faithfulness through the stories of resilience, love, and transformation in foster care. For half a century, Anglicare has been a part of this calling to provide children with safe, loving homes and the chance to flourish. We are deeply grateful for the remarkable foster carers and dedicated staff who live out God’s love daily, embodying the biblical call to care for the ‘widows and orphans.’ This milestone is a testament to their unwavering commitment. Here’s to fifty more years of faith, hope, and love in action. #anglicaresydney #fostercare #outofhomecare

Anglicare's Head of Counselling, Mediation and Youth Services, Sarah Van Bentum, recently visited DOOLEYS Clubs to conduct Domestic and Family violence training, continuing on from the first training delivered earlier in the year. The training was based on providing a broader perspective on Domestic and Family violence and included learning how to apply key learnings to future social work practices, how to identify red flags for domestic and family violence, and ways to assist in making our community safer. As one participant remarked, “domestic violence is a severe community issue that needs to be addressed by our country. Sarah’s training has helped me gain more understanding on the broader issues, and if I ever come across needing to help someone, I now will be able to.” If your organisation is interested in learning more, please send us a DM. #anglicaresydney #DFV #domesticviolence #noexcuse #counselling

Yesterday we took some Christmas cheer to the Parliament of NSW ✨ Throughout the day, MPs and Parliamentary staff helped pack hampers with essential items to bring joy to families doing it tough. Our pop-up Op Shop was a great hit, with visitors purchasing gifts and clothes, with money raised going to support Anglicare's programs. Many took the opportunity to make donations towards Anglicare's work, and to connect with our advocacy and research initiatives, discovering the breadth of work we undertake in local communities. The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect State MPs with Anglicare's work. Thank you to everyone involved with making the event a success! • Leaders from our Anglicare Community and Mission team hosted a special showcase held at Anglicare The Ponds Village earlier this year. The purpose of the showcase was to educate our retirement living residents about the broader work of the Community and Mission team. “Anglicare is really well known for our seniors living spaces, but not everyone is aware of Anglicare’s broader work,” said Reverend Matt Redmond, Partnership Development Officer, South Sydney region. At the showcase the leaders spoke and shared slides to educate residents about the wider work that the Community and Mission team does, bringing their knowledge, insights and thoughts to the table. “It is great for residents to understand what part they play, as Anglicare needs people from all walks of life to walk side-by-side with us,” said Miriam Williams, Resident Engagement Manager & Village Manager, The Ponds. “I never realised Anglicare was involved in children’s welfare and domestic violence,” said one resident. “It has blown my mind, the extent of involvement with disadvantaged people,” said another resident. #anglicaresydney #community #seniorsliving #retirementliving #communityengagement Matt Redmond Miriam Williams

  • 50 years of Anglicare Foster Care ❤️ Over the decades, thousands of vulnerable children have found refuge, warmth, and belonging within our community—a testament to the tireless dedication of foster carers, staff, and supporters. We recently celebrated this significant milestone at a special event at Christ Church Lavender Bay. Anglicare CEO Simon Miller shared, "Anglicare has provided foster care to some of the most vulnerable children in Sydney, and across New South Wales demonstrating God’s love in action. It is clear throughout the message of the Bible that God takes the care of vulnerable people seriously, and children, in particular are close to his heart. "At Anglicare, our vision is to see Jesus Christ honoured, lives enriched and communities strengthened. Our mission is to serve people in need, to enrich lives and to share the love of Jesus. Our work in foster care over the last 50 years reflects this vision and mission, as we have continued to care for the most vulnerable children in our community, walking side-by-side with them on their journey. "I would like to thank our team of hard-working and dedicated staff and foster carers. We are indebted to them for the important and often difficult work they have undertaken over the years in caring for vulnerable children. God has raised up these faithful men and women who have been willing to open their homes and their lives to the children He has entrusted to their care. "Our vision for the next fifty years is encapsulated in our deep desire and hope that our work continues to inspire communities, churches and individuals to engage together to see all vulnerable children cared for." #anglicaresydney #fostercare #outofhomecare Simon Miller Andrew Ford Meredith Donkin Nicole Martin Matt Redmond

  • Check out Anglicare's new food warehouse in Minchinbury! The recent move from the Villawood warehouse, where the team has been since March 2023, comes at a perfect time. With growing demand, the new location offers more space and better facilities to support their work. Not only is the new warehouse larger, but it’s also better positioned—closer to key partners like Food Bank and near major roads, which will improve logistics and accessibility. “This move puts Anglicare in a great position to meet the community’s growing needs. The larger, more functional space is ideal for our staff and volunteers,” said Nathan Moulds, Senior Program Manager of the Community Pantry & Warehouse. “It’s truly a warm and welcoming space for our team to thrive.” #anglicaresydney #charity #foodandfinancialassistance #costofliving #foodassistance #financialassistance Paul Fitzpatrick

  • Anglicare Sydney welcomes new legislation in NSW that ends 'no grounds' evictions. The Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill 2024 also introduces limits on rent increases and makes it easier to rent with pets.   For over 12 years, Anglicare Sydney’s research has highlighted the worsening rental affordability crisis for low-income individuals. Our latest Rental Affordability Snapshot, released this month, reveals that less than 1% of Sydney rentals are affordable for essential workers. For those on income support, such as the Age Pension or JobSeeker, finding affordable housing is nearly impossible.   This new bill marks a significant step toward addressing the rental crisis, but there is more to be done. Anglicare will continue urging the NSW Government to increase social housing by 5,000 homes annually over the next decade and streamline zoning and planning to expedite new home construction. #anglicaresydney #nswgovernment #rentalaffordability #costofliving #socialhousing Simon Miller Sue King Robert Burnelek
