🐪 🐫 Animal Liberation's Australian-first exposé shows wild camels captured, roughly handled, psychologically ‘broken’, and forced into servitude by a popular tourism operator in the Northern Territory. Our investigation highlights some of the issues inherent in animal-based tourism and the lack of animal welfare regulation and oversight within the industry. Working to end the suffering of exploited and confined animals through legislation, education, action and advocacy.
About us
Mission To work towards the end of suffering of exploited and confined animals, through legislation, consumer advocacy, action and humane education. Our History Christine Townend founded Animal Liberation in 1976, based on the philosophies set out by Professor Peter Singer in his best selling book, Animal Liberation. Societies over time have continuously challenged dominant social views for the rights of the oppressed. Discrimination against various races and women were at one point, part of the social norm. Animals now make up this oppressed group, making the fight against their use, abuse, and exploitation one of the biggest social change movements around the world today. These sentient beings are forced to live in disgusting, crammed conditions and subjected to vile treatment throughout their shortened lifespan, and it is time for change. Our Work Animal Liberation fights animal rights issues through: research, investigations, education (campaigns, speakers, Facebook & website), lobbying, public events (meetings, protests, stalls, Cruelty Free Festival), and the 1800 Cruelty Hotline.

These holidays and always, leave harmful animal exploiting events and facilities out of your itinerary. ❌ Pledge to never support animals exploited for entertainment here - https://lnkd.in/gpZMT6YS Facilities keeping captive animals even when there is an attempt to re-create their natural environments can expose animals to stress, overcrowding, inability to display their natural behaviours, depression and zoochosis. Where animals are exploited for entertainment in rodeos and animal rides, their well-being will fail to be prioritised over profit. Check out our blog to learn more about the hidden costs of animal tourism - https://lnkd.in/g6kmTtfx

The NSW greyhound racing industry is progressively getting worse in spite of all the government promises and an “independent” regulator – racing injuries and deaths, killing, overbreeding, drugging and on it goes. This culture can never be reformed and it’s time to shut down this gambling fuelled dog killing industry for ever. From January, to the end of December 2024, 𝟏𝟏𝟐 𝐆𝐑𝐍𝐒𝐖 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 have been investigated, charged and found guilty on a 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝟏𝟗 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 by the NSW regulator GWIC. This is an increase from the January to December 2023 period of 103 GRNSW participants and 135 charges. December 2024 included more cases involving prohibited substances detected in greyhounds. The drugs included: Sotalol, Phenobarbitone, Ethynylestradiol, Norethisterone and 17a-Ethynyl-5ß-Estran 3a, 17ß-Diol, Metformin, Tramadol, O-Desmethyltramadol, Metformin and Hydrochlorothiazide. So much for the industry’s Race Well App - https://lnkd.in/gSantF36 The December 2024 period also included 17 individual GRNSW participants who have all failed to account for the whereabouts of an unknown number of greyhounds. The 17 GRNSW participants are: Simon Brown, Shane Watkin, Scott Kelly, Ronald Gittoes, Rick Burke, Michael Bambac, Maxwell Rimmer, Logan Bootsma, Lisa Fogarty, Bradley Shoobert, Blake Gatt, Blake Chapman, Bianca Ellis, Hayden Porter, Fahed Elniz, Craig Price and Brian O'Neale. Animal Liberation will continue to advocate for these thus far missing dogs. As a further indicator of the failure to “regulate” or “reform”, the ongoing court case involving GRNSW participant Colin Wasson, who arranged to have four of his greyhounds killed (RIP ‘Aston Shaker’, unnamed greyhound, ‘Qatar Angel’ and ‘Pennyroyal Tea'). A search of the industry’s E-track system has these poor dead dogs listed as: Aston Shaker, Status: Deceased, Sub-Status: Deceased - 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 Qatar Angel, Status: 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, Sub-Status: Other Pennyroyal Tea, Status: 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, Sub-Status: Other Just in case you missed it, watch here the recent all-in brawl at the Richmond greyhound death track on a night the industry billed as a pre-christmas night for kids: https://lnkd.in/givCwu9s Take action here: https://lnkd.in/gijqQ5t4 Read more about the 2024 GWIC charges here: https://lnkd.in/gJ88SBg2 #ShutItDown #greyhounddeathtracks #bangreyhoundracing #rottentothecore #defundracing

Don't forget the risk of 1080 poison when travelling these holidays! - Use the map, published by The Coalition Against 1080 poison which identifies current baiting sights throughout NSW, published by Parks and Wildlife - Check for any baiting signs and research the area you intend to travel - Keep your animals close to you and on lead, not allowing them to roam - Do not allow any animals in your care to eat anything you do not give to them (1080 can be moved by birds or other animals and end up in unsuspecting areas) - Learn more about 1080 here - ban1080.org.au

In our capacity to feel joy, fear, and pain, we are the same. Every day, billions of sentient animals are bred into existence and slaughtered for human consumption at a fraction of their lifespans. The lives of animals exploited and killed for our food choices, are often hidden behind closed doors, many people never see with their own eyes, the lives and deaths of the animals who end up on their plates. For nearly five decades, Animal Liberation has exposed the harrowing realities of animals exploited in every industry and in particular, in Australian farms and slaughterhouses. This January, why not make a commitment to choose compassion. By signing up to Veganuary, you will be taking the first step towards a more compassionate lifestyle. Sign up today! - https://lnkd.in/dcNazQH

Ensure you only support ethical ways to interact with animals, these holidays and always. Please boycott any activities which commercially exploit and harm sentient beings, using them as exhibits, for human entertainment and sport. These ventures include, rodeos, camel riding, animal circuses, greyhound, thoroughbred or harness racing, zoos and petting zoos and ventures like Sea World. ❗Fireworks are dangerous and terrifying for animals, including native species and contribute to toxic pollution. Animal Liberation strongly opposes the use of fireworks due to the immense fear and harm they cause to animals. The loud explosions and bright flashes cause panic, leading to injuries, stress, and even heart attacks. Every year, pets run away, wildlife and farmed animals can become disoriented trying to escape the noise. Birds abandon nests, and frightened animals risk being hit by cars or harmed in other ways. The fear and stress caused by fireworks can have lasting effects, leading to anxiety in many animals, as well as physical injuries when trying to escape.
