Our Melbourne office participated in a site visit to gain a greater understanding of our 'Kelping the Bay' collaboration with Deakin University. Our objective was to engage in a citizen science program, identifying various fish species and populations while snorkeling with support from our expert facilitators at Sea All Dolphins Swim, and gain insight into how Deakin University are actively supporting the local underwater ecosystems. While out on the water we were fortunate to see an abundance of marine life, including Dolphins and Seals, along with immersing ourselves amongst the Golden Kelp ecosystem we are working to support. To conclude the day, Dr Jacqui Pocklington from Deakin University and the Kelping the Bay project lead, delivered an informative presentation focusing on kelp forest restoration in the Port Phillip Bay area and its role in marine ecosystem health. Following this, we toured the Deakin Marine Research and Innovation Centre lab. There, we saw ongoing research exploring how coastal ecosystems can mitigate climate change, as well as sustainable aquaculture practices being developed and trialed. #ActingForPlanet #sustainability #BetterWays #KelpingTheBay

On 25th February, we welcomed the CMA CGM Perth to the Lae Tidal Basin. A significant milestone in our commitment to strengthening maritime trade, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and fostering economic growth in Papua New Guinea. The arrival of CMA CGM Perth is more than just an introduction of a new vessel; it represents progress, enhanced connectivity, and the confidence that global shipping partners continue to place in our port infrastructure. The arrival of the 262-meter-long vessel, demonstrates the Lae Tidal Basin’s capacity to accommodate larger vessels and ICTSI’s ability to handle them efficiently. This is the largest gearless vessel to berth at the port, and we anticipate more such arrivals in the future, given the successful turnaround of this voyage. This is a positive development, reflecting the returns on our investments in the Port of Lae and the Lae Tidal Basin. It underscores the trust that major international shipping lines have in our port facilities and in ICTSI, the operator of the Lae Tidal Basin. We are excited to announce that ANL and Aurizon, Australia's largest rail freight company, have partnered on the creation of our new Landbridging service.   The new service connects Asian Pacific ports to Darwin with direct rail connection to Adelaide and southern Australian destinations as required. In honour of World Whale Day, we are excited to share ‘A Whale’s Tale’ highlighting our collaboration with Project Jonah New Zealand, a New Zealand based Non-Government Organisation that speciailises in protecting marine mammals. We are dedicated to protecting marine mammals and proudly support Project Jonah’s efforts to respond to stranded whales and dolphins.   Project Jonah operate a Stranding Hotline, and over the course of a year these calls involved more than 430 whales, dolphins, and seals. Thanks to their team’s swift response, many of these marine mammals were given a second chance at life. Sharing a mutual love and commitment to marine mammals inspired us to get involved and support Project Jonah’s incredible work.   We are proud to support Project Jonah in their vital initiatives. This included the enhancement of their 24/7 stranding hotline, ensuring more calls for help are answered. The hotline is available to anyone in New Zealand who has concerns about stranded marine mammals (0800 494 253). Additionally, our support contributed to the maintenance and upkeep of rescue equipment used to re-float stranded whales. Our team also participated in Project Jonah’s marine mammal medic course, where they trained in first aid on life-sized, life-weight dolphin and pilot whale models and learned how to use specialised rescue equipment.   This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water, highlighting our commitment to preserving marine ecosystems. We are thrilled to announce the launch of Reef Recovery 2.0, a project leveraging Reef Ball technology to restore and protect marine ecosystems in New Caledonia. These artificial reefs, made of marine-friendly concrete, provide essential habitats for fish and other marine species. Since 1993, over 1 million Reef Balls have been deployed in more than 7,000 projects across 70 countries, significantly advancing marine conservation. REEF PROTECT, a non-profit dedicated to preserving marine environments, is installing 10 Reef Balls on Îlot Maître, near Nouméa, with support from CMA CGM and SeaCoast, driving reef restoration and coastline protection. This partnership aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, highlighting CMA CGM’s leadership in sustainability.
