About us
We are a national research centre with the goal of creating a sustainable bioeconomy for Australia. Synthetic biology is uniquely placed to mitigate climate change and other human-induced catastrophes. Microbes can be employed to turn industrial waste into useful products. Carbon from fossil fuels can be captured for use in the circular economy. We aim to be a leader in the global conversation about this sector, forecast to bring up to $4 trillion in economic impact. globaly over the next two decades

Awesome first day at #CoESB2024. A series of talks addressing the key challenges around commercialising synthetic biology-based innovation today at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology annual conference in Wollongong, and a call out for the Wild Yeast Zoo from Director Ian Paulsen as a new affiliate of the centre. Louise Brown from HydGene Renewables addressed how they are getting from lab to market with local use of agricultural and other biological "waste", and Ali Jahanian laid out the key engineering issues with scaling biomanufacturing. A great introduction to our Think Tank discussion on transdisciplinarity and the difficulties around scaling in this vital and growing sector. #SyntheticBiology #InnovationToMarket #Biomanufacturing #Transdisciplinarity #Bioeconomy
