ARCH Artifex is excited to announce that Nicola Dwyer, with just over 3 years of experience, has officially completed her Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Honours) with a Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice at UTS. Nicola first joined ARCH in 2021 as an intern with the SESA team and has since made valuable contributions to environmental and sustainability management on major projects, including the Heathcote Road Upgrade, Moorebank Intermodal, and Sydenham to Bankstown (CIRA). We are thrilled to have Nicola continue her journey with us as an Environment & Sustainability Consultant, and we look forward to her continued growth and success within the team.

Earlier this week, ARCH Artifex’s Human Factors team was represented by Fadzai Katsande at the 60th Anniversary of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia conference in Brisbane where experts in HF/E spoke on systems thinking, psychosocial risks, environmental hazards, machine learning, and VR perception testing among many growing knowledge areas.    Congratulations to those who were awarded as certified ergonomists and those recognised for their research efforts this year. Your contributions to health, safety, performance and well-being in various environments are greatly appreciated. We're looking forward to taking what we've learned and applying it to the work we do as a team.   Lastly, thank you to HFESA for providing these opportunities to a young industry and making space for professional growth in HF/E across Australia.

Debunking the Myth: SFAIRP vs. ALARP Andy Petrie delivered a thought-provoking paper at AusRAIL, challenging a common misconception that SFAIRP (So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable) and ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) are distinct concepts. The key takeaway from Andy's presentation was that these two terms both, in fact, support the same legal test of Reasonably Practicable, as supported by case law examples. The difference lies in their application: - SFAIRP is best used when referring to an activity (whether it should be managed, reduced, or eliminated). - ALARP, on the other hand, is more applicable when discussing the quantum of risk and how low it can reasonably be reduced. This insight is crucial for professionals working in safety, risk management, and compliance.
