Where Horizons Begin
About us
Established in 1931, Archerfield Airport has played a pivotal role in Australia’s history. Between 1931 and 1949 Archerfield was Brisbane’s main domestic and international airport. In 1931 it became the headquarters for Qantas, with Australian National Airways (ANA) and Trans-Australia Airways (TAA) also setting up operations in later years. In 1934, it facilitated the first west-east crossing of the Pacific Ocean by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. In the same year, it became the birthplace of Australia’s first international Airmail service to England and Qantas began its first international services to Singapore from Hangar 5 in 1935. Archerfield also served as a major base in WWII when Brisbane became a vital defence bastion, housing the US, Dutch, British and Australian Armed Forces. After the war, Archerfield Airport continued its roles as Brisbane’s international airport up until 1949. Today, Archerfield Airport continues its legacy as a premier metropolitan airport, supporting a diverse range of aviation activities, including flight training, charter services, aeromedical operations, government and corporate aviation, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. Additionally, the airport handles a significant volume of helicopter movements, making it a preferred destination for rotary operations. Archerfield plays a vital role in driving economic growth, enhancing connectivity across regional Queensland, and empowering businesses to succeed. Our vision is for Archerfield Airport to be Brisbane’s “premier enterprise and transport hub, with great people and aviation at its core”. We have continued to revitalize this national icon through the development of modern aviation infrastructure, positioning Archerfield as a catalyst for innovation and the introduction of new emerging technology. We’re proud to announce that Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) and Wisk have signed a landmark Strategic Alliance Agreement to support eVTOL air taxis at Archerfield Airport, Queensland’s largest general and corporate aviation airport. eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft are set to revolutionise aviation, providing fast, clean and quiet advanced air mobility (AAM) transport options. Under the Strategic Alliance Agreement, AAC and Wisk Aero will embark on a variety of projects aimed at developing the AAM ecosystem and operations at Archerfield Airport. Kickstarting this relationship is an electrification project that will determine the electrical and infrastructure requirements and facilities needed to support eVTOL operations at Archerfield Airport. A successful turnout at the first Advanced Air Mobility Roundtable at Archerfield Airport. We’re thrilled to announce a strong turnout for the first Advanced Air Mobility Roundtable hosted at Archerfield Airport, in collaboration with Underwood Innovation Lab and Thales. This event gathered Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from Industry, Government (State and Federal), and Academia to advance the capabilities of the rapidly growing Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector. Key objectives focused on strengthening the AAM network, identifying challenges, and exploring opportunities to accelerate emerging aviation technologies. The discussions also outlined critical focus areas and actionable steps to secure funding for establishing the Advanced Air Mobility Centre of Excellence in Southeast Queensland. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this successful event. We look forward to welcoming even more participants at the next roundtable! #AAMCoE #CentreofExcellence #AdvancedAirMobility #Innovation #Airport #Archerfield #ArcherfieldAirport #AirMobility #AAM #RPAS #UAS #eVTOL #SoutheastQueensland #Queensland #Innovationprecincts

Airport Safety Week has landed at Archerfield Airport, and what a fantastic turnout! We kicked off the week with an insightful seminar on Tuesday, featuring guest speaker Christopher Lea from Basair Aviation College, who delivered an engaging presentation on fostering a positive safety culture. On Wednesday, we hosted our annual Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walk, with an incredible participation of over 130 attendees! Seeing our community come together to support airport safety was inspiring. As part of the FOD walk day, we were thrilled to present two awards: Carly Andrews from Flight One Pty Ltd, who won the 5c Challenge, which involved finding a 5c coin on our main runway. Gioyver from Acacia Ridge State. These events truly emphasise the importance of community and vigilance in maintaining safe and efficient airport operations. A huge thank you to all involved for making this week a big success! Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe environment for all aviation activities at Archerfield Airport. LIFE FLIGHT….We constantly hear their helicopters overhead and take for granted the amazing work that this Proudly Australian and ONE of only TWO fully independant aero-medical services in the world perform day in and day out. Today saw the opening of their new facility LifeFlight Clive Berghofer Centre at Archerfield Airport Corporation Fun Facts: flying hrs to maintenance hours is a 1:5 ratio. Services (rescues, medical, evacs) performed in last 12 months 8000. With a fleet of 23 helicopters and 5 jets. I hope I never have to be on one, but am reassured that we have the absolute best care in the world available to all who live here. Thank you Shaelene H. for the opportunity to share in the opening.
