Archipelago is proud to be supporting Australia’s peak aquatic sports bodies - Swimming Australia, Diving Australia Limited, Water Polo Australia and Artistic Swimming Australia in establishing the vision for the National Aquatics Centre (NAC). The NAC is set to become Australia’s leading aquatics venue, integrating high-performance excellence with grassroots accessibility and major event capabilities. Designed to address Brisbane’s outdated aquatic infrastructure, it provides a long-term solution to support the growth of aquatic sports and the broader community. Key highlights of the proposal: ·        World-class design: Three new pools, two diving towers and supporting amenities for training, competition, and community use, developed adjacent to and integrated with the heritage-listed Centenary Pool at Spring Hill. ·        Celebrate and build on heritage values: Centenary Pool is Brisbane’s first Olympic standard pool and diving complex, with important heritage value for the city and aquatic sports. It is planned to be restored and renewed as an important part of the centre. ·        High-performance hub: A home for national centres of excellence in swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming, while attracting major international events currently beyond Queensland’s reach. ·        Legacy-focused: While ideal for the Brisbane 2032 Games, the NAC is essential to meet current and future community needs, ensuring Queensland’s aquatic sports thrive for decades. ·        Cultural heartland: The NAC will deliver a lasting physical connection to the 2032 Games that inspires community participation and future generations of athletes who will train in the same venue as Australia’s 2032 heroes for decades to come. The NAC represents more than just infrastructure; it is a strategic investment in Australia’s sporting future, providing a space to inspire participation, nurture talent, and deliver enduring health, social, and economic benefits. We are honoured to collaborate with Australia’s peak aquatic sports organisations, with the support of the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, and World Aquatics, to bring this transformative project to life. #Brisbane2032 #Aquaticsports #Architecture #citymaking #urbandesign #Legacy #2032Games

  • 2024 has been a year! As we wrap up a year defined by its challenges and triumphs, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible projects we’ve brought to life alongside our clients and partners. The scale and impact of these endeavours leave us inspired and proud. Across 89 diverse projects, spanning city centres and regional landscapes, we’ve tackled everything from strategic frameworks and master plans to the thoughtful design and delivery of buildings, landscapes, and public realms. At every scale, we’ve embraced opportunities to push boundaries, challenge the norm, and create meaningful experiences for our clients and collaborators. We close 2024 on a high note! With fresh energy from renewed government leadership and a wave of industry optimism, the horizon for 2025 looks brighter than ever. Archipelago remains firmly “at the table” on major projects, leveraging our deep urban knowledge and sector expertise to connect clients with transformative opportunities. Excitingly, we’ll kick off the new year in a larger studio space just a few floors above, energised by a growing team and a sense of momentum. The year ahead promises abundant opportunities in what feels like one of the most dynamic times in our journey. Thank you for being part of this incredible adventure. We are privileged to share it with you and look forward to continuing to shape great outcomes together in 2025.

  • What a fantastic before and after montage of the newly opened Logan Gardens Share Parkway, a destination parkland in Logan City. Archipelago immensely enjoyed working with Logan City Council to bring this project to life which is the first built project realised in the nationally award winning Logan Community + Civic Precinct Master Plan. #urbandesign #landscapearchitecture #publicrealm Well done to team members Dominic Powell, Julie Hardie, Phil Mackenzie

Last month we opened the Logan Gardens Shared Parkway, a new trafficable shared zone and car park in Logan Gardens, Logan Central 🛣. The parkway connects the Civic Parade car park to Rosny Court (off Karri Ave). The project is the first stage of a strategy to provide better access to Logan Gardens as part of the Logan Central Civic and Community Precinct Plan. During the Logan Central Summit, the community expressed a strong desire for improved activation, amenity (look and feel), and safety of Logan Gardens. The shared pathway project provides additional car parking and more equitable access for residents and visitors. It also includes improved lighting, creative lighting and CCTV to improve park safety, as well as improved park facilities. The project is jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

  • The recent spotlight on Archipelago’s Brisbane BOLD 2032 Strategy brings an inspiring wave of optimism for our city's future. The announcement of the 100-day review, with a generous terms of reference, led by an impressive panel of decision-makers, signals a commitment to visionary leadership for Queensland. This is a pivotal moment to shape a legacy that extends far beyond venues and budgets, focusing instead on transformative city-making potential. We’re particularly thrilled to see our work validated through critical review and benchmarking by global consultancy leaders, Arcadis. This endorsement reflects our dedication to creating urban environments that are both innovative and enduring. As advocates for outcomes that are best for Brisbane’s future, we trust the expert decision-makers involved in this process to identify and implement the most visionary solution. Together, we have a remarkable opportunity to ensure that Brisbane’s legacy becomes a global benchmark for city-making. #brisbaneBOLD #BOLDforgold #brisbane2032 #brisbane #olympicmoment #olympiclegacy #urbandesign #architecture #landscapearchitecture #cityofourdreams

After two months away Archipelago has been delighted to welcome back Senior Urban Designer + Planner - Maia Cavendish. As a recipient of a Churchill Fellowship (thanks to Winston Churchill Trust (Australia)), Maia embarked on a self directed, 8 week international travel tour, exploring the implementation of informal urban art in residential urban spaces. Throughout her travels, Maia met with Government officers, planners, urban designers, academics and artists to understand the nuances of different cities' approaches to public art and how these approaches subsequently contribute to shaping community.   As a Senior Urban Designer + Planner at Archipelago Maia’s study directly informs her professional interests in the wide-reaching benefits of facilitating art in the public realm, particularly from a community perspective.   As part of her report Maia has composed a beautiful collage for each place she visited. First up: São Paulo + Rio de Janeiro [Brazil]. Image 01 Buenos Aires [Argentina]. Image 02 Philadelphia, Los Angeles + New York City [USA].
