About us
ART ON THE MOVE is Western Australia’s only organisation dedicated to touring contemporary visual art exhibitions across the regions, interstate and beyond. We challenge and encourage the interaction of contemporary artists, audiences, educators and communities within a dynamic, creative touring, professional development and learning program. Producing creative pathways for visitors and residents to explore their sense of place through art.¬¬¬ ART ON THE MOVE’s value lies in its ability to operate objectively on behalf of artists and galleries by offering a platform for the individual and collective voices that resonate in each locality as a means of preserving the unique voices of those areas. This is where the character of an area is defined, where meaning is made and identity created.

On behalf of the Board, we are pleased to announce that Ricky Arnold has been formally appointed as Executive Director of ART ON THE MOVE. Ricky brings over thirty years professional experience in the Western Australian arts sector to this leadership role at ART ON THE MOVE. He has held arts management roles in local and State Government, and provided arts consultancy and strategic planning services for over ten years, most recently playing a leadership role in the arts and disability sector. Whilst in various funding and development roles at the Department of Culture and the Arts (2002-2013), Ricky worked closely with the Australia Council (now Creative Australia) on the implementation of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, with the Federal Government on Aboriginal art centre development, and managed multiyear contracting for over 50 arts organisations across the State. In 2017, he facilitated ART ON THE MOVE’s Regional Galleries Forum, and in 2018, facilitated the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost partnership between the The Art Gallery of Western Australia | AGWA and ART ON THE MOVE. Over 2022/23, he led research and consultation with the regional visual arts sector, to produce the recently released five-year Regional Visual Arts Touring Strategy 2024-28. This document is an important framework for the future development of the regional sector, and how the State Government’s investment in the Regional Exhibitions Touring Boost may be maximised. This appointment presents a strategic opportunity for ART ON THE MOVE and the Board has agreed that Ricky is the best-placed person to deliver on the Touring Strategy recommendations, and that his wide-reaching network and respected reputation in the sector offers great potential for new partnerships. Ricky’s leadership will be an asset the organisation and will facilitate our aims to deliver on ART ON THE MOVE’s strategic objectives. Please join us in congratulating Ricky at this exciting time! - - - - Photography by Dan Grant.

It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that we announce the resignation of Theo Costantino from the position of Executive Director of ART ON THE MOVE. Theo has been instrumental in guiding our organisation through numerous successes and challenges over the past few years. Since starting with us in 2020, they have been adept at navigating numerous organisational changes set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. Theo played a pivotal role in managing the relocation of our offices, ensuring a smooth transition, and maintaining our operational efficiency, and their efforts in securing ongoing funding for the ART ON THE MOVE have been crucial in sustaining our mission and programs. Their dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment to the arts have been an asset to the organisation, and the wider sector. Moreover, Theo's dedication to providing excellent artistic content for the audiences of Western Australia has enriched our cultural landscape and garnered widespread acclaim. Under Theo’s leadership, ART ON THE MOVE has grown and extended its reach to communities across Western Australia, a notable recent achievement being the coordination of a significant research project for the recently released Regional Visual Arts Touring Strategy, 2024-28. This work aims to increase the capacity of the regional gallery sector of WA and will surely prove to be an asset that is treasured for years to come. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Theo for an outstanding contribution, and from everyone at ART ON THE MOVE, we wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. +++ Photography by Duncan Wright.
