  • How to Leverage Actionable Data & Intel for your travel program - FCM Travel and Enterprise. A summary from the ‘Black Run’ Seminar 1, 'Actionable Data & Intel for your travel program’, at the Australia Corporate Travel Summit | ACTS on 13 November 2024 presented by FCM Consulting’s General Manager Felicity Burke and Enterprise’s Strategic Sales Director - APAC, Jim Crowder. Travel Growth and Predictions: Travel is on the rise, with seat offerings for 2024 expected to be about 2% higher than in 2023, marking an all-time high and surpassing the 2019 benchmark. Airfare Trends: Average ticket prices have decreased this year, and while domestic airfares in Australia have softened, international airfares are increasing, particularly in the US, Canada, and Brazil. Car Rental Market Insights: The global car rental market is significant, with expected decreases in rates for APAC in 2024 and 2025, highlighting the importance of including car rental in travel programs. Hotel Rate Volatility: Hotel rates have increased over the past few years and are expected to continue rising, with occupancy levels returning to normal in key cities, affecting pricing strategies. Sustainability and Electric Vehicles (EVs): The adoption of EVs in the travel sector is hindered by range anxiety and insufficient charging infrastructure, which must be addressed for successful integration into travel policies. Overview The Seminar focused on key trends and forecasts within the global travel sector, noting a 2% projected increase in seat availability for the upcoming year despite challenges such as inflation and geopolitical unrest. The discussion revealed a decrease in domestic airfares in Australia while international ticket prices remained stable. The second segment examined ground transportation, pointing out a $134 billion global car rental market, with APAC set to see reduced rates and increased emphasis on customer experience and sustainability. Lastly, hotel trends indicated rising rates, particularly in major cities, with global occupancy levels stabilising. Attendees were encouraged to shop early for travel arrangements, consider off-peak seasons for events, negotiate hotel rates, and develop long-term travel programme plans. Action items included maintaining close communication with suppliers to better understand customer needs and market fluctuations. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gVxRH_ej

  • Qantas’s dual brand and corporate travel in Asia. All change! At the Australia Corporate Travel Summit | ACTS, organised by Greener Airlines, Qantas CEO International and Freight, Cam Wallace, offered some insights on how Qantas is using its dual brand on international routes into Asia, defining “Jetstar“ routes and the “Qantas” routes and how the group was differentiating their product in the market. For corporate travellers, there are inevitable consequences. In October, the Group announced it will replace Qantas with Jetstar in the Korean market next year. It’s currently competing with two full service airlines, Korean Air and Asiana, as well as low cost T’Way. It’s not the first time this strategy has been applied, nor will it be the last. It’s one of the advantages of having a dual brand strategy, that the revenue profile of particular markets – and that includes the level of competition - can be more accurately targeted by either the full service or the low-cost airline. The need to be more focused on the low cost component in Asia has intensified in the last decade. It’s a continuing process and will only become more marked. The profile of Australia-Asia travel has undergone very important changes over this period – and they affect how the Qantas Group serves this rapidly growing region. Boeing’s forecasts to 2040 project SEAsian aviation growing at over 7% compounding, almost twice the global levels and more than three times the rate of global GDP growth. Long-haul LCCs have transformed the Asian market The region is being stimulated by growing intra-regional trade and tourism shifts, and relative stability. But most importantly for aviation and tourism, it’s the expansion of long-haul low-cost carriers, LHLCCs, that has transformed the market and is increasingly challenging traditional flag carriers and other full service airlines. This phenomenon is interesting enough in itself, because the conventional thinking always was that the low-cost model would not translate to long-haul travel. But it certainly has in Asia.  Today no less than seven widebody (that is twin aisle, mostly A330s and 787s) LHLCCs fly into Sydney, occupying about 13% of all international seating capacity in that market. For Melbourne, where the long-haul Jetstar operation is based, it’s even greater, with 9 LHLCCs operating there, accounting for almost 20% of all seats. Within in SEAsia, long- and short-haul LCCs account for nearly two-thirds of all seats. 20 years ago there were none. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g9yWGNpZ

With over 470 corporate travel pros filling the room, today’s sold-out event is set to be a powerhouse of insights, connections, and game-changing ideas. “The Summit comes at a crucial time for the corporate travel industry which is managing a fast-changing aviation environment, geopolitical challenges and pressures to make the sector more environmentally sustainable. There will be many lively discussions and debates across the day,” said Peter Harbison, co-founder of ACTS Organiser, Greener Airlines. “ACTS has lived up to our expectations to emerge as the pre-eminent Summit for the corporate travel industry in Australasia”, said Tass Messinis, Chairperson of the Association of Travel Management Companies, the event’s Strategic Partner. “Global business travel spend is projected to reach a record $1.48 trillion in 2024, and by 2028, we’re looking at a $2 trillion industry worldwide. Australia is part of the resurgence. • Global business travel spend to reach record levels! Catherine Logan will break down the latest GBTA Business Travel Intelligence, and the numbers are huge: Global business travel spending is set to hit a record $1.48 trillion in 2024, and by 2028, we’re looking at a $2 trillion industry. What’s driving this growth? Inflation is part of the story but also economic stability, pent-up demand, and businesses embracing a new era of purposeful travel. CEO confidence is back, and so is the global demand for face-to-face meetings. But with growth comes complexity. Economic conditions, sustainability, and tech innovation will all shape the future of corporate travel. The road ahead is promising, but we must stay agile. Don't miss Catherine Logan's GBTA | Global Business Travel Association update at the Australia Corporate Travel Summit | ACTS next week! #ACTS #CorporateTravel #BusinessTravel #GBTA #TravelTrends #TravelRecovery #PurposefulTravel
