This year, ExxonMobil Australia reached the end of an era, ceasing oil production from the Gippsland Basin. Over the last 55 years, our operations off Victoria’s east coast have been a vital pillar of Australia’s oil supply, producing more than half of the nation’s total crude oil. This is a culmination of many hours of hard work and dedication from our talented workforce. Check out the video below, which highlights the day we shutdown our Cobia platform; our last oil producing platform in the Basin.

We are Australian Energy Producers, the peak body of the explorers, developers and producers of essential energy.
About us
Australian Energy Producers has roughly 200 members, comprising oil and gas explorers and producers active in Australia and companies providing goods and services to those explorers and producers. Our member companies produce around 95 per cent of Australia’s oil and gas. The oil and gas sector plays a fundamental role in our nation’s economy, providing essential energy to power businesses and homes in Australia and across the world. Our sector invests billions of dollars to generate reliable, secure and cleaner energy, creating jobs and economic growth for the communities in which we operate. Australian Energy Producers supports net zero across the economy by 2050, consistent with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the commitment of the Commonwealth Government. Australian natural gas is pivotal to the energy system transformation in Australia and the region, providing the firm dispatchable energy required to unlock our renewable energy potential, and powering Australian industries including those processing the critical minerals necessary for net zero.

The critical role of natural gas in ensuring Australians continue to have reliable and affordable energy is front and centre as News Corp publications launched a week-long campaign today. In today’s lead story, Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch said investment in new gas supply has stalled in Australia as a result of regulatory uncertainty, approval delays and activist lawfare. At a time when Australians are facing cost-of-living pressures, governments should be removing barriers to new gas supply needed by Australian households and businesses. News Corp’s timely “Keep the Lights On” campaign focuses on the key role of gas; the need to turbocharge investment, its important role in making renewables reliable, and addressing approval delays and uncertainty. 🗞️ Gas offers energy crisis lifeline as summer blackout warnings are brought forward 🗞️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gdn8RWqF

The Federal Labor Government’s deal with the Greens to exclude gas extraction from the Future Made in Australia legislation ignores the critical role of gas in powering Australia’s manufacturing and mining sectors. Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch said Australia’s oil and gas industry was not looking for subsidies, but needed stable policy settings that recognised the critical role of gas in Australia’s energy mix and economic agenda. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g2aHpEdA

In breaking news, the Federal Court has ordered the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) to pay Santos more than $9 million in legal costs for its failed legal bid to stop Santos' Barossa gas project. As The Australian reports today, the case was dismissed earlier this year after Justice Natalie Charlesworth made a series of scathing findings about the work of the EDO and the consultants it engaged. The judge found the consultant's reports were “so lacking in integrity that no weight can be placed on them.” The case should send a strong message to activist law firms like the EDO that they are not above the law, and reinforces the need for an immediate halt to their taxpayer funding. It is unacceptable that the EDO continues to receive $2 million a year in taxpayer funds from the Federal Government to disrupt and delay critical energy projects and put Australia’s economic and energy security at risk. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gHXQ_nVA

Empire Energy is committed to working in partnership with local communities and the owners of the land on which we operate. Immediately prior to the commencement of drilling Carpentaria-5H, we were invited by traditional owners to attend a welcome to country ceremony at the well site. They have given the well the name Jijimhunja, which represents a small beetle that burrows into the ground. We thank them for their ongoing support. #eeg #empireenergy #carpentaria #nt #northernterritory #welcometocountry #wellsite #jijimhunja #gas

Yesterday we partnered with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Australia to host an International Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Parliamentary Lunch in Canberra, showcasing the global momentum for this critical net zero technology. Attendees heard from Minister for Resources Madeleine King about how the Federal Government is working with industry to support the scale-up of CCUS in Australia and our region, and the importance of CCUS to Australia’s net zero ambitions. Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch provided an overview of how Australia’s oil and gas industry is leading the way on CCUS, and the significant economic and strategic opportunities if we can become a CCUS destination for our Asian trade partners. Australia is already host to two of the largest CCUS projects operating globally today – the Chevron Gorgon project and the Santos and Beach Energy Moomba project. We thank Norwegian Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Anne Grete Riise, Ambassador of Japan to Australia, H.E. Kazuhiro SUZUKI, and Chargé d’Affaires for the United States of America, Erika Olson, for sharing some of the exciting CCUS developments in their respective countries.

Federal Court documents obtained by Senator Susan McDonald and reported in The Australian reveal the extent of the Environmental Defenders Office’s (EDO) inappropriate conduct, reinforcing the need for an immediate halt to taxpayer funds to the activist lawfare group. “It is now beyond any doubt the EDO is more interested in engaging in legal activism than genuinely representing the interests of Traditional Owners,” Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch said. “It is unacceptable that the EDO continues to receive $2 million a year in taxpayer funds from the Federal Government to disrupt and delay critical energy projects and put Australia’s economic and energy security at risk.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gEnXx8GD
