The Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council (ALEC) is a member-based, peak industry body representing Australia’s livestock export sector. It sets industry policy, provides strategic direction to the industry and represents Australia's livestock export trade in Australia and internationally. ALEC members account for more than 96 percent of Australia’s annual livestock exports, by volume and value. ALEC’s membership also extends to supply chain participants including registered premise operators, ship owners, feed suppliers and other service providers to the trade.

Western Australia is facing the lowest wool production since the 1920's. All of industry warned this was a consequence of the Government's ban on live sheep exports. This is a shameful destruction of one of Australia's founding industries, but there is still time to repeal the legislation. #keepthesheep

My article in the West Australian today. In introducing the live sheep export ban Anthony Albanese and Julie Collins have shown they are willing to accept the support of vegan extremists. We have always said the live sheep ban would be a red line issue for Australian agriculture. The situation in WA at the moment should serve as a warning to all Australian agriculture industries. It really a sad day when a government lets good people in rural and regional communities suffer for the support of extreme activists and a handful of east coast votes.

Trust in live exports in Australia has increased. In a survey by independent CSIRO spin-off, Voconiq,76% of participants agreed that the benefits of live export either outweigh or are equal to the costs. This is the highest level since the survey began in 2019. The study is jointly funded by LiveCorp - Australian Livestock Export Corporation and Meat & Livestock Australia and assesses community sentiment about the trade.
