🔊 We are delighted to share that today, Pivotal Ventures, a Melinda French Gates organization, launched Action for Women’s Health, a $250 million global open call that will fund organizations around the world improving women’s mental and physical health. Registration is now OPEN! Action for Women’s Health will support an array of organizations—of diverse geographies, sizes, perspectives, and approaches—united by their work to improve the mental and physical health of women. Awardee organizations will each receive flexible funding between $1 million and $5 million (USD) by the end of 2025. Interested organizations must register to apply by 4 p.m. U.S. Central Time on December 3, 2024 and submit an application by 4 p.m. U.S. Central Time on January 10, 2025. It’s been an important year for women’s health, with increased attention on gendered inequities and a spotlight on women’s experiences of pain through initiatives like the #EndGenderBiasSurvey. Building on this momentum for gender-responsive health is as important as ever. Our new position paper, The Gendered Experience of Chronic Conditions: Insights, Challenges and Opportunities outlines the gendered experience of chronic conditions, the Australian policy context and makes recommendations for positive change. 💡 Reflections from the National Health Promotion Symposium 💡 Health promotors recently gathered on Ngunnawal Country, Canberra, for the National Health Promotion Symposium organised by the Australian Health Promotion Association. As part of the symposium, we hosted an interactive workshop responding to the theme: Shaping the Future of Health Promotion. Senior Policy Officer Sienna Aguilar and Policy Advisor Kate May led the workshop titled, ‘Bridging the Gap: A Gender-Responsive Approach to Health and Chronic Conditions'. Building on the growing evidence-base of research and lived experience, key takeaways included: 🔎 Women live with more chronic conditions and pain than men across the lifespan. 🔎 Women continue to report gendered bias, discrimination, and dismissal when seeking support for chronic conditions and pain. 🔎 By acknowledging and addressing gendered inequities in research, policy, and practice, we can make positive change. Participants also reflected on how they could apply gender-responsive health to their work—whether in community health, academia, policy or beyond.
