🌟 What an incredible week at the SSAA Conference on the Gold Coast! 🌟 We had the privilege of meeting with so many amazing clients and interested parties who stopped by our trade stand to learn more about StoreProtect, our innovative non-insurance alternative for the self-storage industry. We're thrilled to share that StoreProtect won the prestigious "Excellence in Industry" at the event — a testament to the hard work and dedication that has gone into making this product a game-changer for the industry! 🎉🏆 A huge thank you to the fantastic Makala Ffrench Castelli and the Self Storage Association of Australasia team, the organizers behind this wonderful week, for bringing us all together. You’ve created an event that’s not just about business, but about building connections and celebrating the growth of this dynamic industry. 🙌 A special shoutout to Adam Kellaway, the visionary creator of StoreProtect, whose passion and commitment to innovation have made this product a reality (tangible enough to hold an award!). And of course, to Gage Hanlen, the gun on the floor, for his tireless energy and excellent engagement with everyone who visited our stand. 👏 The self-storage industry is thriving, and we're so proud to be part of such an ever-expanding space. 🚀 We can't wait to reconnect with everyone we met this week — and those who didn’t get a chance to drop by — at next year’s convention. Yesterday I was extremely fortunate to attend a 'Cooking for a Cause' corporate event organised by our cyber insurance partners, Coalition, Inc. Hosted at the Alexandria (NSW) headquarters of OzHarvest in Sydney, we soon learned that OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. It collects quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivers it directly to more than 1,500 charities supporting people in need across the country. The organisation is community-oriented and also runs sustainability training programs and zero-waste events. Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn AO, after noticing the huge volume of good food going to waste in the hospitality industry, she decided there had to be a better way. Starting in Sydney with one van—the first of many donations from the Goodman+ Foundation—she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month. Food waste feeds climate change. Australia’s food waste is more than 7.6 million tonnes each year, while 3.7 million households relied on food relief last year. If food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases. OzHarvest’s work rescues food from going to waste while feeding those in need. They are truly maximising social impact while minimising environmental impact. Joined by Nell Brescia and Lauren Rahiman from our Aviso Broking Sydney office, we collaborated with 50-60 other insurance industry professionals and were divided into teams of eight who under the guidance of professional chefs, were put through our paces to cook up some amazing meals that would be delivered to charity partners who in turn, would use the food to feed those less fortunate in the community. To think that ALL the food we prepared yesterday (without the intervention of OzHarvest) was otherwise headed for the dump, is absolutely mind-boggling and shows just how much work our country has to do in addressing foot wastage problems. It was great to have our eyes opened and to understand just how powerful the community impact this type of organisation can have.
