Transforming futures through financial literacy Imagine being the first in your family to graduate high school. For some young men from the Clontarf Foundation Academies, this dream is now a reality. BOQ were thrilled to welcome over 50 students from Kirwan, Gordonvale and Woree to BOQ Village in Newstead for their end-of-year trip recently. Our partnership with the Clontarf Foundation, which began in 2017, supports the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. During their visit, five young men shared with BOQ Group’s people, and guests from the Qld Department of Education, powerful stories about how the program helped them attend school daily and achieve excellent results. A key aspect of our partnership is facilitating financial literacy sessions. Over the past two years, BOQ representatives have delivered these sessions to Clontarf students across Queensland and the Northern Territory. We now offer three engaging Financial Literacy games: Budget Like a Boss, Pay Me Later Pals, and Scam Slam. Financial literacy is crucial for everyone, especially young people transitioning into adulthood. At BOQ Group, we believe in supporting financial wellbeing and ensuring more Australians are financially literate. Our interns also led these sessions, gaining a deeper understanding of the Clontarf Foundation and the importance of partnerships that deliver social impact. #FinancialLiteracy #CommunitySupport #ClontarfFoundation #EmpoweringYouth #SocialImpact

Today, Bank of Queensland, ME Bank and Virgin Money Australia has placed its customers on notice through an important and unambiguous update to its deposit product terms and conditions to make clear that we will not tolerate the misuse of our products and services to perpetrate financial abuse. We know that perpetrators misuse services like banking, insurance, superannuation, telecommunications, energy, water, and technology to threaten victim-survivors or accrue debts in their name, leaving them financially decimated. We want that to stop. While this is an important step, we acknowledge there is more to be done. We are committed to continuing this work by collaborating with the sector and with consumer advocates to ensure our products are not used as vehicles for abuse. Thank you, Catherine Fitzpatrick & Flequity Ventures for shining a light on this issue, supporting us and advocating for this much needed change across several industries. 2024 marks our fifth year partnering with Orange Sky Australia and this July, with your help, we raised an incredible $203,633. Those donations have an immediate impact on people doing it tough and experiencing homelessness – every dollar raised is going to hot showers, fresh laundry and meaningful conversation. We'd like to say a massive thanks to everyone who donated throughout the month. 🧡

In celebration of our 150th anniversary, we commissioned First Nations artist and proud Kamilaroi woman Merinda Walters to create a piece that reflected our 150 years of history, legacy, and ties to the state of Queensland. A range of people from the business took part in yarning circles with Merinda, where they reflected on their personal experience at BOQ, which helped to form the final piece. The resulting artwork, called Burrul gi-gi Magula (meaning growing together in Kamilaroi, an original language of southern Queensland and northern New South Wales areas), is a celebration of the past 150 years and a promise for the future. Recently revealed in Brisbane at our NAIDOC week celebrations, the artwork will now take pride of place in our corporate offices and branches across Australia - keep an eye out.
