  • We were honoured to welcome Hon Steven Edgington, MLA Barkly, to today’s Barkly Regional Council meeting. The session provided an opportunity for open dialogue, with Hon Edgington thoughtfully addressing a range of questions from our elected members, strengthening our collaborative efforts. A special highlight of the meeting was the swearing-in ceremony for Councillor Andrew Tsavaris for the Alyawarr Ward. We thank Hon Edgington for his participation in this memorable occasion. With Councillor Tsavaris' s ceremony complete, all twelve elected councillors of the Barkly Regional Council have now been sworn in. We look forward to the new chapter with positive changes in our region.

  • We are thrilled to announce that our 2025 Australia Day Ambassador is Georgina Bracken. Georgina is no stranger to our community, having served on many boards over the past 25 years, including Barkly Regional Arts, Barkly Region Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Group Board, NT Shelter, and Disability Advocacy Service. Currently, she represents non-government organisations and the community sector on the Barkly Regional Deal Governance Table, where her influence extends to community services and advocacy. Until recently, Georgina coordinated Tennant Creek Transport. She drove the Connect Service to provide transport services for patients and individuals in need to and from the Greyhound Coaches. As the first manager of the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre from 2003-2007, Georgina demonstrated her commitment to preserving culture through visual and performing arts. Her commitment to social justice and community safety led her to be the CEO of Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge. In her role as Chairperson, she consistently supports women and children who are among the most vulnerable victims of domestic and family violence. On Barkly Regional Council’s behalf, Mayor Sid Vashist welcomes Georgina Bracken to be part of the 2025 Australia Day celebration: “Our Council is delighted to welcome Georgina Bracken as our 2025 Australia Day Ambassador.
