Next year is a big moment for governments around the world to update their climate ambition with Nationally Determined Contributions, including Australia.   Last week I gathered with like-minded advocates from the business community to show government our collective ambition for strong climate action and ask for theirs too through #Mission2025.   As stubborn optimists, at IKEA we believe that we can create a better future. But we cannot do it alone – we need goals, policies and investments from government that are aligned with 1.5°C which provide certainty to the private sector and enable more businesses to invest and accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy.   Thank you  Better Futures Forum and Better Futures Australia for sustainable development of Australia and for the opportunity to be part of the panel conversation and show the support of IKEA as a global partner.   #climateaction #business #retail

This appointment showcases the trust Lord Mayor Reynolds has earned from the GCoM Board, Alliance partners, and the GCoM Secretariat, thus empowering her to keep working alongside GCoM leadership to further strengthen the role of cities & local governments in helping national governments meet climate goals.

💡 Thrilled to share the release of the Future Generations Policy Brief—a vital roadmap for embedding long-term thinking into Australia’s governance. It presents bold, actionable solutions to build a sustainable and fair future, including a Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and a Commissioner for Future Generations. The policy brief emphasises opportunities for climate action as a cornerstone of intergenerational fairness - such as investing in renewable energy and sustainable land use can help reduce long-term risks while strengthening communities, protecting Australia's biodiversity, and contributing to a thriving clean economy. Importantly, the report highlights the value of Indigenous stewardship and intergenerational knowledge in shaping these solutions, offering a path to ensure Australia meets its climate commitments and supports those most affected by environmental and social challenges. I’m proud to have contributed in a small way to this landmark report, through Better Futures Australia. Huge thanks to Foundations for Tomorrow.org and the Intergenerational Fairness Coalition for leading this important work, which reflects years of research, cross-sector and multi-stakeholder collaboration, and dialogue. Australia: we need to talk about the urgent need for a Clean Commodities Trading Company to advance Australia’s green superpower ambitions.   As Oliver Yates and I argue in The Mandarin today, a Clean Commodities Trading Company would deliver massive and connected economic, environmental, and strategic gains for Australia: https://lnkd.in/gY7DBK_P Specifically we argue: "As a model for sophisticated green energy statecraft, the creation of a Clean Commodities Trading Company would demonstrate Australia’s commitment to smart, collaborative policymaking designed to maximise national security, comprehensively conceived.
