The two-week conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is one of the Middle East’s largest gatherings for the construction and design industry. SHORTLISTED | What role does art and culture play in transforming healthcare environments? We are honoured to announce that Campbelltown Hospital Redevelopment has been shortlisted for a European Healthcare Design (EHD) Champions award in the Interiors & the Arts category. This $632M project goes beyond traditional healthcare design by deeply embedding connection to Country throughout the facility. Working closely with the Dharawal community, including local Elders like Uncle Ivan, and all other local community groups, we developed a co-design approach that transformed institutional spaces into more inviting healing environments. Key features include: ·        A welcoming Hospital Street featuring an 80-metre botanical mural by Dr Erica Seccombe ·        Sculptural lyrebird installations by First Nations artist Nicole Monks ·        Wayfinding inspired by native medicinal plants ·        Light-filled spaces with expansive landscape views ·        A ‘Healing circle’/gathering space, inspired by yarning circles. Beautifully captured was when a local Dharawal Elder said, "I didn't think I would live to see the day when a government building like a hospital brought our culture in like this." Two years post-opening, the project has become a benchmark for arts integration in healthcare, represented in NSW Health's new Health and the Arts Framework 2024-2032. Proud to have collaborated with Campbelltown Arts Centre, Health Infrastructure, the Local Health District & CPB Contractors on this transformative project.
