#ElonMusk envisions a million people on Mars, the number needed, according to him, to create a self sustaining society on the #RedPlanet. Food is such an important physical and psychological part of being human. Yes NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration has grown some crops on the #ISS, but these wont be able to provide our new Martian Colony with the required Proteins and Nutrients. In Earth terms, feeding a million people will take an area of roughly 33,000Ha. Yes, granted there are better ways to do it, but feeding this colony will be very difficult. Our question today is simple: How will we feed a million people without support from Earth (we want to be self sustaining right)? Who is taking the lead in answering this question?

With SpaceX successfully catching the Booster, we’re curious about the impact on proposed and existing launch vehicles’ business models. #Starship and #SuperHeavy are revolutionizing the #SpaceEconomy, turning many fringe business cases from “Speculative Dreaming” into “Hey, this could actually work!” What are your thoughts? And where does #Australia fit into this?

Still seems surreal! So many amazing feats, doing the impossible on your first attempt. Speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of the people at SpaceX. Well done guys and girls!

The Future is coming to Australia!
SpaceX is “in talks” with government officials to land and recover Starship off Australia’s coast, according to a new report. Reuters, the respected news agency, cited sources that said the operation could even pave the way for the Elon Musk-backed firm to launch rockets from the continent in future. It comes after Starship celebrated its most successful test flight yet in June when it conducted a soft splashdown for the first time. However, the company crucially didn’t attempt to recover the upper stage when it executed a “flip manoeuvre” and came to a rest in the Indian Ocean. https://bit.ly/3A1b4I3

Malcolm Davis hits the nail on the head with this article. #Australia has so much to offer in terms of #SpaceLaunch, yet this is not being taken seriously by the powers that be. We should get behind projects such as Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA), Space Centre Australia, Southern Launch and Gilmour Space Technologies. Having sovereign launch capabilities will open many more opportunities for Australian Companies competing on an increasingly global scale.
The 2024 National Defence Strategy, and its accompanying Integrated Investment Program deliver more continuity than change on Australia's approach to the space domain for Defence. This represents a missed opportunity to embrace and support Australia's commercial space sector to support Defence and National Security missions. It ignores the advantage Australia's geography provides for sovereign space launch, to sustain access and build space resilience. My thoughts in the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's Strategist on what might have been had the National Defence Strategy been willing to go a bit more boldly into Space.

As we celebrate the #InternationalDay for #HumanSpaceFlight it is worth considering how far we have come, and the speed of development that is ever-increasing. In #Australia, companies such as Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA), Southern Launch and Gilmour Space Technologies are working hard at securing our place in the new #spacerace. What will it take to get #Astronauts and #SpaceTourists to depart Earth from #Australia?
