BluGlass has filed three new US patents that advance high-power, tuneable #GaN lasers targeting quantum, aerospace, marine, defense and biotech markets. These patents are not just a milestone in innovation—they are a strategic asset that safeguard our unique technologies, market leadership, and competitive advantage.   Our latest technical paper authored by BluGlass’ Dr Ryan Anderson shows how BluGlass’ GaN DFB lasers tackle critical challenges where power, precision, and tunability are essential to support emerging technologies. Dr Anderson has presented this cutting-edge research at the world’s peak photonics conference, 2025 SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco from 28-30 January. Australia's role in the global semiconductor supply chain and Macquarie University new Silicon Platforms Lab were key topics of discussion at the recent Macquarie Park Semiconductor Summit. BluGlass has received a A$5.37 million R&D tax rebate from the Australian Federal Government for development activities carried out across its Australian and US facilities in FY24.   BluGlass CEO Jim Haden said, "We deeply appreciate the Australian Government's R&D incentive program. The combination of this rebate with the US ME-Commons provides a non-dilutive cash injection that supports our groundbreaking technology development and advances BluGlass' novel capabilities, expediting the development of next-generation GaN lasers to address significant unmet needs in critical emerging applications.”

BluGlass Chair James Walker joined Australian tech and capital market leaders to discuss how Australia can retain homegrown talent as well as invest in Australia’s domestic manufacturing as part of Semiconductor Australia 2024 ‘Going Global’ panel. James highlighted the advantages Australia has in design and niche manufacturing, such as #photonics and inputs into #quantum computing and sensing, arguing we need ongoing investment to grow our capabilities in these sectors critical to the global #semiconductor supply chain.
