I’ve been floating about on here for 13+ years. And I’ve never properly introduced myself… I’m Tommy Murphy a 32 year old LinkedIn video marketer. Born in London Raised in Ireland Moved to Glasgow, Scotland for Uni Visited Sydney 8 years ago for a six month backpacking holiday of the East Coast…still here (but never ended up backpacking the East Coast). This is my professional story so far: — Summer 2007: First ever summer job at 15 working as a labourer for 2 quid an hour - spunked the whole summers pay buying an Xbox. 2008-2011: Worked in Asda stacking shelves on evenings and weekends while at school - spunked most of that pay on nights out. 2012-2015: A 6 month internship at Enterprise Rent a Car turned into 3 years selling damage waiver insurance - this covered my uni rent, the rest I once again spunked away on nights out. Aug 2015: Worked in outdoor education at one of the best companies ever, Camps International. Dec 2016: Landed in Sydney fully intending to just stay for 6-months. Aug 2017: Got sponsored to work in media sales…in Sydney - at 25, I finally started investing my money in productive things like personal development and the share market. Jan 2020: Summited Everest Base Camp. Aug 2021: Started my journey on a different type of Everest…starting my own company, A1 Connect doing B2B media buying. — Many ‘pivots’ later… I now help charismatic, B2B Founders & Execs to get 12 weeks of LinkedIn Videos with just 1 hour of their time - either in person, or remote. And ensure their profile gets in front of their dream clients and referral partners. And for those with the appetite, I set them up with a system I built to use ethical AI, automation and offshore editing talent to build their own in-house content team so they can stop wasting thousands on over-priced agencies. Cringing at the thought of doing a video for LinkedIn? You’re Not Alone. A lot of clients and friends of mine feel/felt the exact same. So did I before I started a couple years ago. Putting yourself on camera can feel uncomfortable, even unnatural. But if you’re a founder, your audience wants to hear from you before they work with you. And unless you possess unlimited time and energy for networking events to try and get face time with as many potential clients as possible. The easiest, efficient, most cost effective way to do that is - grabbing your phone - pressing record - and answering 1 question you get asked all the time (like I’m doing here) Simple…but not easy. So here is three actionable tips to help to set yourself up for success: 1️⃣ Choose the Right Environment Pick a quiet spot where you won’t feel watched. The less self-conscious you feel, the more natural you’ll come across. 2️⃣ Ditch the Script Use bullet points instead of reading word-for-word. If you mess up, pause, reset, and keep going. Editing will take care of the rest! Apps like Detail can even add simple captions without much effort. 3️⃣ Be Kind to Yourself Video is a skill. And like any skill, you’ll probably suck at first. But the more you do it, the better (and more confident) you’ll become. The most important thing to remember? Published is better than perfect.

Do you have a habit that's inconvenient to your business (but you'll realistically never change)? For me, that habit is not taking pictures when I'm in the company of others. I prefer getting stuck into a good conversation. So pausing it to take a photo is something I forget to do 9 times out of 10. But when you're repping your business at an event that you're hosting...this can be inconvenient. And that's exactly what happened last Thursday. I was on a good run, I managed to document behind the scenes, but once the deck was full with people...it was all about the chats, not the snaps. At the end of the video, you'll see the only picture I managed to take...and no one was even looking at the camera.
