Great insights into the HomeMade technology solution run on SAP BTP
Government-led home-based #agedcare packages often prove frustrating for users from a cost management and services choice perspective. Australian start-up HomeMade is pioneering with its B2B2C self-service online model. Established in 2020, Sydney-based HomeMade now employs +100 staff and is fully compliant with Australian Age Care Quality Safety Standards. Backing from established SITS players and long time partners SAP and Accenture has clearly bolstered HomeMade’s ability to transform the status quo offer. While the digital health sector focusses on innovation driven through clinical-grade solutions, we hear little of the backend enterprise-grade tech needed to complement this. This is one such example of why we need this blended approach, and by doing so opening up the potential to multiple contexts across the aged care sector. Core to the HomeMade solution is Bourne Digital | Part of Accenture, a #humancentereddesign agency specialising in SAP applications, which Accenture acquired in 2023. Its offer is underpinned by the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), which uses open source Cloud Foundry as its primary platform. The SAP BTP platform comprises some 13 modules, ranging from management of databases, workflow, identification, and document information exchange, through to portal design, custom domain, integration, and analytics cloud. Bourne is behind the automated self-service portal design. While providers report operational gains, users are more aware of the wider range of in-home services they can order online, along with choice of provider, and are empowered to manage their own care budget - onboarding takes 48 hours. #AI is already used to read documents, and management foresees advances towards leveraging data to identify falls or other incidents alongside #LLMs to recognize clinical deterioration in users and launch preventative interventions. This approach may seem straightforward, but there are actually relatively few solutions dedicated to this type of multi-disciplinary team interaction. While a lack of tech interoperability is cited, more pressing is the absence of any cultural ecosystem to facilitate sharing of sensitive data related to billing and scheduling, let alone data privacy. English local councils, which run social care provision for people of all ages living with certain long term conditions, launched a similar project in 2015: the Personal Health Budget. This has had mixed success, and isn't universally regarded as positive, especially when aligned to outcomes. Digital access remains challenging, while service choice isn't as mature. This field remains niche compared to other home-based service evolution such as telehealth in Australia. Other established digital players with broadly similar aims (but not all geared to self-service) include AlayaCare, CareVision, Hayylo, Lumary, and Maica Healthcare. In a reverse move, UK-based CareLineLive launched in Australia in February 2024.

Our CEO, Selim Ahmed had the opportunity to host Antoniette De Marco from Konica Minolta at the Accenture SAP Global Leadership Council this week.
I was very honoured to host a fireside chat with Antoniette De Marco at the Accenture SAP Leadership Council in Europe this week. Antoniette shared her bold journey to re-invent the Konica Minolta Australia customer experience with S/4HANA and SAP BTP to lead on insights, convenience and simplified journeys. It is an incredible story that highlights the courage required to simplify a business to prepare for the era of AI. Thank you Antoniette De Marco for sharing your story on the stage with some of the world's leading brands.
