We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of JMC Academy Brisbane Audio students for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of our event spaces and equipment. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they explored different aspects of our venue. BCEC is now fully equipped with the globally recognised L-Acoustics K2 Line Array audio reinforcement system. This technology allows us to dedicate a top-tier audio solution for our premium auditorium conference and concert space, the Great Hall, ensuring superior sound quality for speakers and artists to deliver their best performances to their audiences. After several weeks of intensive training with our AV team, the system already received praise within its first week of implementation. 🌻 This July marked a milestone for sustainability in our precinct as we welcomed our partners at Business South Bank (BSB) to celebrate their 25th anniversary and launch the BSB Sustainability Pledge - the first precinct initiative of its kind in Queensland. The Pledge celebrates South Bank's sustainability champions and supports those starting their journey by providing resources and networks that will help all members to develop a green, healthy and inclusive Precinct. 🏕️ At BCEC, reducing our environmental footprint is vital to our operations. BCEC's EcoMarines Corporate Crew Ambassador and Senior Chef De Partie, Wallace Macdonald, shared insights into our Kitchen team's sustainability efforts and how they minimise food waste. "I have always been invested in the environment and our impact on it. I spend a lot of my spare time either out on the water or camping, so I see first-hand the affect we have on our local environment and try and do my bit to help." 🌱 We are collecting more of our food off-cuts for composting, ensuring scraps contribute to new growth instead of landfill. 🚚 We now buy a lot more products in bulk and have reduced the number of days we receive goods, helping reduce our food miles. 🍉 We've built a great partnership with Emmanuel City Mission who we've supplied with food donations. BCEC also donated $10,000 to the Mission in 2023 from our Containers for Change efforts. Our partnership with the EcoMarines Foundation has changed our approach to sustainability. 🍍 With the launch of BCEC's new 2024 / 2025 Menu, Seasoned by Queensland, we were delighted to welcome our clients and stakeholders to discover our authentic and inventive selection, focusing on fresh local produce as the main ingredient and undisputed hero. Developed by Executive Chef, Matthew V Arnold, together with his talented team of culinary professionals, the Menu aims to surprise and delight our clients and guests while encouraging healthy and sustainable dining choices. With BCEC recently judged Australia’s Best for Banqueting & Catering at the Meetings & Events Australia National Awards, General Manager of the ASM Global (APAC) managed Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Kym Guesdon, said the new menu demonstrated the award-winning culinary team’s passion, dedication and inclusiveness. ♻️ As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we've made it easy for Team BCEC to help create positive change through our in-house eco-friendly practices. We sat down with BCEC EcoMarines Corporate Crew Ambassador and Human Resources Officer, Desi Falcon Henriquez, to talk about the initiatives BCEC has introduced through our partnership with the EcoMarines Foundation. "We have access to multiple Back of House waste streams that our team members use daily. It's great to have an opportunity to bring clothes from home to donate to Lifeline in the workplace, as well as be able to bring in materials to be recycled or upcycled such as soft plastic, batteries, masks and glasses. We've also added Sustainability Tours as an integral part of our Orientation Program. On their first day, our new team members explore our initiatives and projects and learn how crucial our sustainable operations are to our local environment.
