  • Victoria Makes It Easier for Hospitality Businesses to Thrive!   Great news for new hospitality businesses in Victoria!! The Allan Labor Government has announced that from 1 July 2025 venues applying for a liquor licence won’t have to also need a local government planning permit.    Under the current arrangements hospitality businesses are required to apply for a liquor licence from the Victorian Liquor Commission and a planning permit from their local council. The applications are pretty much identical requiring the business to provide the same information twice, adding to cost and delays in getting up and running.    In addition to the elimination of planning permits to serve alcohol, the Allan Labor Government also announced that the temporary removal of outdoor dining permits during the pandemic will become permanent, allowing venues to serve customers in public spaces like streets and car parks without extra permits and fees.   We are incredibly pleased about the positive impact this reform will have for our clients and hospitality venues in Victoria, it is set to save businesses up to $7,000 and allow them to open up to six months earlier.    If you want to know more about these changes, or anything hospitality related... please reach out.    We are proud to support some of Melbourne's most established, as well as up and coming, hospitality venues and personalities.

  • We are very excited to announce Giulia Ausilio's promotion to Associate at Burch&Co. Giulia has been an integral part of our Dispute Resolution & Litigation Team since joining us at the beginning of this year. In that time, her tenacity, energy and skillset has made a welcome contribution and addition to her team and the firm as a whole. A great lawyer and an even better person that we are proud to have represent us. Congratulations Giulia, we look forward to your career being a continued success at Burch&Co.

  • This afternoon, we had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful selection of our clients and friends at the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women in Business Lunch. Expertly interviewed by Paul Guerra of VCCI, the incredibly impressive and engaging Kate Reid spoke to us about her journey —from being the only female aerospace engineer working with the Williams Formula 1 Racing Team to founding the globally celebrated Lune Croissanterie, soon to open two new stores in Sydney.   We were deeply inspired by Kate’s willingness to challenge the status quo and her determination to improve every single day.   A special thank you to the wonderful women who joined us for this event.
