A festive quartet from Camerata brought the holiday spirit to the Domestic Terminal at Brisbane Airport Corporation today! Thanks to our strong partnership, we’re spreading Christmas cheer to travelers far and wide.
About us
Performing without a conductor, Camerata’s Artistic Associates and their guests proudly take full ownership of their music-making in the spirit of chamber music to form a thriving, refreshing and acclaimed voice to empower artists, inspire audiences, and enrich communities through music. Under Artistic Director Brendan Joyce, the group is Company-in-Residence at Queensland Performing Arts Centre and undertakes an annual regional Queensland tour and subscription concert season in both Brisbane and Toowoomba. As Artistic Associates, players contribute to the strategic direction of Camerata, are integral to the process of programming the season of works and provide performance and training opportunities for the next generation of Queensland artists through the Upbeat program. With a reputation for innovation and interesting and adventurous programming, the ensemble is extremely flexible in its repertoire and thrives in collaborations with artists from all art forms. Camerata employs over 130 artists across 50 concerts each year, reaching an annual audience of 52,000. In 2020 Camerata reached an online audience of over 1,000,000 through 5@5 with Camerata and other digital programs in response to COVID-19. Camerata is committed to enriching communities with its annual regional Queensland tour which includes the commissioning of a new Australian work, free public performances, education engagements and workshops with local schools and students and visits to residents in aged care facilities.

The program is designed to foster the next generation of Queensland musicians, and provides a number of performance and rehearsal opportunities over twelve months, to support career pathways for talented graduating or recently graduated artists. The participants join Camerata to experience life as an Artistic Associate of Camerata, gain valuable industry insight, and be mentored by Camerata’s Artistic Associates. 🎶✨A Fusion of Art and Music at Roving Gallery Performances! ✨🎶 Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra is taking residency at the Rockhampton Museum of Art this December, creating something truly special! As part of this collaboration, five Camerata musicians and 2024 Emerging Composer-in-Residence Alexandra Mison will be composing and performing pieces inspired by a selection of stunning artworks in Collection Focus: Women and Know My Name: Australian Women Artists. Join us for a free, roving musical experience throughout the gallery. Immerse yourself in live performances where music meets visual art, as the musicians explore the stories and emotions behind the artworks. Camerata is delighted to share that we have been successful in securing an historic 9-year funding from the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation from 2025. This new strategic partnership program has been offered to three Queensland-based arts organisations in what may be an Australian-first initiative. After a long history and friendship with Tim and Gina Fairfax and the foundation, which dates back to our first regional tour, we are deeply moved by this tangible belief in what we do. This 25-minute performance is designed just for children, offering a fun and immersive introduction to music. Congratulations to Abigail Lui, Camerata’s 2025 Emerging Composer-in-Residence! Abigail Lui is a Brisbane-based composer and violinist inspired by the stories that help us make sense of the world. A recipient of ABC Classic’s Composer Commissioning Fund (2024) and winner of Adelaide Chamber Music School’s String Quartet Composition Prize (2022), she is fast gaining a reputation for bold and intuitive writing that’s equally lucid in concert hall and community.
