  • The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are a set of evidence-based and simple actions to improve our wellbeing, from the New Economics Foundation. Looking at these actions from the lens of #InteriorDesign, we find there are more than a couple of links to improving our emotional health through our home. Take notice: 🌈 Have a home that helps you take notice of your life. Your values, your past adventures, your favorite colors and memories.   Get those holiday photos framed, drink tea from the teacups inherited from great aunt Betty and have a bookshelf bursting from a lifetime of collecting. Have windows you open, to hear and see the beauty of nature outside and choose a comfy lounge for talking with friends and loved ones late into the evening. Be active: Design a home where you move naturally, enjoy walking through your home, standing while cooking, gardening outside, even housework!  Create a thoughtful home that allows you to move the way you want to, move though it and at times - get out of it and into life! Keep learning: Design spaces for work and study that maximises your desire to learn. Certain design elements will increase your energy, your attention and joy of concentrating. Maybe it’s the placement of your desk, the ergonomics of your chair or how much natural light comes into your space. And, Cantwell Interiors love learning! So, if you want to learn some design principles that work for you about your home then we’d love to give you enough information so you can take over and keep designing for yourself, long after we’ve left. Connect: Design a space to connect with your family, your friends, your neighbors, and yourself. Design a home that you’re proud to invite people to. Create cozy spaces for intimacy and also open spaces for joy, energy and raucous laughter. Build a home that allows you to feel safe to connect with what you want in life, with your hopes, dreams and ideas. Give: Create a home where others come for a warm cup of tea and chat. Grow a garden full of flowers you can gift to friends ‘just because’ or build a beautiful and functional kitchen to bake delicious treats shared with others. Our homes can be the base, or the beginning, of what we offer of ourselves to the wider world. #5WaysToWellbeing #InteriorDesign #CantwellInteriors

Do you have an untidy collection of 'things'? And did you know it might be increasing your feelings of stress, anxiety and overwhelm? Our brains struggle to process excess stimuli and will constantly ‘sort’ visual clutter while you’re attempting to work, sleep, cook or even relax.  Having a space that is relatively clear and organised lets your mind focus on more important tasks like sleeping, working and eating well. However, I need to acknowledge that our collection of things often serves an emotional purpose for us. And letting go can feel hard. For most of us, many items have sentimental value or loving memories attached. For others a collection of items represents a fear of being without. Wherever you sit on the clutter continuum, here are some areas of heavy hitters when it comes to the impact of clutter. 🖥 Your office Clutter is a nasty offender when it comes to behavioral and indecision-based procrastination, as well as overwhelm and anxiety. Just the thought of all those negative emotions in my workplace makes me want to crawl back to bed! 🍵 Your kitchen Do you feel like you want to make good nutritional choices for yourselves and your family? Then clear out your kitchen chaos for improve your chance of making better choices.     🛌 Your bedroom. As you fall asleep, imagine your poor brain trying to sort through all that excess visual stimuli. So, for improved sleep, tidy your nightstand / bedside table, clean out one drawer of clothes as a start, maybe your shoes. 💡To get you kickstarted, you could try a declutter challenge. Pick a friend or colleague for accountability and choose a 30 day declutter challenge of your choice.   Or check out Veronica Kennedy's work at a Hand to Help. She has such great organising resources on her website (link in the first comment). Now, back to clear out my desk! #Wellbeing #DeclutterChallenge #InteriorDesign

  • Another gorgeous photo from our recent project, showing the sweet but super functional under-stair bookshelf and cabinetry. We had lots of discussions about how best to utilise this space in the study in a way that was useful and also attractive. I think this worked out beautifully! Our client engaged Cantwell Interiors for a 20-hour designer by demand package, calling us to help with the tricky decisions of her #PassiveHaus design. #SustainableDesign #BiophilicDesign Architect: Wurl architects 📷 Wurl architects

  • Check out these stunning windows at a newly finished project. When we talk about finding a focal point in the room, you don’t get better than these! The brief was to support our client who was bravely project managing the build of her architecturally designed passive house. She was overwhelmed with the volume of costly decisions, so she engaged Cantwell Interiors for a 20-hours ‘designer on call’ package. Together we made some tricky decisions about paint colour, flooring, window furnishings and more - but my client did the bulk of the work, as she knew roughly what she wanted. And the result? Well, these windows give you a clue about how well it all turned out! Architect: Wurl Architects 📷 Wurl Architects #SustainableDesign #Sustainability #BiophilicDesign

  • It all begins with an initial consultation, where you'll share your vision, preferences, and aspirations for your home. From there, I craft a bespoke mood board, capturing the essence of your dream space with carefully curated colors, textures, and design elements. You will be surprised by how much you will refer back to the mood board, even after I have finished! Next comes the exciting task of selecting fittings, furniture, decor, and finishes ensuring every choice reflects your style and enhances your living experience. Finally, as the pieces come together, your space will be styled to perfection, with meticulous attention to detail transforming it into a reflection of your personality and lifestyle. Of course, there are always variations when working with different people, but this gives you a snapshot of how we work with you to create your dream space. #residence #InteriorDesign

  • We love the sustainable carpet and rugs from Bremworth. As a company that uses New Zealand wool as its primary fibre, they promote the fact that wool is not only 100% natural, biodegradable and renewable, but it’s also a brilliant fibre for design innovation and overall performance on the floor. The carpet is thick, smells amazing and feels delicious on your feet. #BiophilicDesign #InteriorDesign
