🌏 Moving beyond net-zero: As we reflect on the pivotal discussions from this year's #AERSummit podcast, we revisit the critical need to shift from net-zero goals toward net-negative, nature-positive solutions to address the climate crisis effectively. This snippet features insights from Chris Halliwell (CORE Markets), Daniel Ota (ANZ), and is hosted by Janet Hallows, diving into: → Scaling removals: The importance of policies and private investments to advance nature-based solutions and engineered carbon removal technologies. → Sector-specific pathways: Why land and agriculture must lead the way with net-negative emissions to meet Australia's 2050 climate goals, as emphasized by the IPCC and CSIRO. → Market opportunities: The untapped potential for carbon markets to mobilize capital, enabling up to 185 million tons of carbon sequestration annually under a 1.5-degree scenario. →Acting now: Using tools available today—such as land-based solutions—while innovating for affordable long-term removals. 🎧 Missed the full podcast? Wrapping Up COP29: Net-Zero, Nature-Positive, and Australia's Role 🌏 As COP29 comes to a close, we are proud to share insights and resources from our final key events driving critical discussions on climate action and biodiversity. The panel discussion on Net-Zero and Nature-Positive, moderated by CMI's Janet Hallows, brought together inspiring leaders like Suzanne Thompson, who highlighted the importance of Indigenous practices, Skye Glenday from Climate Friendly, who shared practical examples of integrating carbon and nature outcomes on the ground and Ilona Millar of Gilbert + Tobin, emphasizing the need for robust frameworks to align corporate investment with biodiversity and net-zero goals. At the Minister's Reception, co-hosted with the Clean Energy Council, Hon. Chris Bowen MP reflected on Australia's leadership at COP29, including co-chairing critical finance negotiations and announcing a $50M contribution to the Loss and Damage Fund. Premier Peter Malinauskas showcased South Australia's renewable energy achievements, leading the way with 80% renewable energy generation—on track for 100% by 2027. We’re inspired by the momentum built at COP29 and look forward to continuing these important conversations and connections in Australia and beyond. 🌿 At #COP29, the spotlight shone on Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) as a key tool for creating a nature-positive, net-zero future. With contributions from CMI members Climate Friendly, Indigenous Carbon Industry Network, and the Climate Change Authority, the session explored how NCA can transform the way we value and protect our planet. 💡 What is NCA and Why Does it Matter? NCA helps measure and value natural assets—biodiversity, carbon sinks, and water systems—so we can better manage them. Standardizing NCA unlocks finance for sustainability, helping in efforts to restore ecosystems and drive global action. 🎥 Missed the session?
