Every Australian – at one or multiple points in their life – will engage with the care economy. However, despite the important role it plays in the everyday lives of every Australian, the care economy is often not seen as the economic driver it is. The Care Economy CRC has just lodged a bid for funding under the Commonwealth Government’s Co-operative Research Centre Grants program. Because Australia’s care economy needs to be prioritised, and collaboration invested in.

Have your say and provide feedback on the discussion paper before the 24th January 2025 to shape the future of children, youth and parenting programs in Australia. #CareEconomy #Collaborationacrosssectors #ECEC #Disability #mentalhealth #genderequality
Don't forget, consultation is open for the review of children, youth and parenting programs. A Discussion Paper has been developed to generate feedback and ideas. This will inform the Australian Government to make future decisions about family and children supports. In-person workshops will take place in every capital city with interested organisations, practitioners, academics and peak bodies. Limited workshops will also be held online. To view the Discussion Paper, make a submission, or to register for an in-person or online event, visit https://lnkd.in/gkjpV7dk and provide your feedback by 24 January 2025.

We welcome the findings of the Scope of Practice Review, identifying workforce design, development, education and planning as one of three key issues holding back primary (and community) care professionals from working to their full scope of practice. Key findings including lack of support for health (and care) professionals to learn and work in multidisciplinary teams and is one of the priorities that the Care Economy CRC is set to take on. https://lnkd.in/g_A6ZeH3

The Aged Care Bill has passed parliament and will be law from 1 July 2025. Responding to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the Aged Care Taskforce - this really is a welcome turning point for Aged Care. Now the really hard work starts as providers begin to implement and manage this change - the Care Economy CRC brings a collaborative industry-led approach to drive innovation and can support effective implementation of some of those changes. https://lnkd.in/gXMFiAaJ

Care Economy CRC reposted this
Unpaid care work keeps millions of women out of the labour force. According to the latest ILO estimates, 708 million women worldwide are unable to participate in paid employment due to care responsibilities—compared to 40 million men. As the demand for care grows, it’s clear we urgently need policies that support the care economy and foster opportunities for all. 📘Learn more about these new findings and how to drive change: https://ow.ly/UBxm50TViBn #DayOfCare

We welcome this news! Increased autonomy of our valued and skilled nurse practitioners will help to address workforce pressures felt in the Care Economy. Terrific initiative !
Minister for Health and Aged Care, Member for Hindmarsh, Authorised by Mark Butler, ALP, Port Adelaide
Nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives, in spite of being well recognised as autonomous practitioners with the skills to be able to operate independently, have been required by law to enter into a collaborative arrangement with a doctor. That was fine if they could get it, but many nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives could not get it. We have recognised, after an independent review provided clear evidence that those collaborative arrangements have really no place in our system and should be abolished. Our government is making an historic change that will finally support nurses and midwives with some of the highest qualifications to independently provide Medicare services. From tomorrow, nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives will be able to autonomously provide a range of Medicare services and prescribe certain Pharmaceutical Benefits Schedule (PBS) medications, in line with their skills, training and experience. We understand the integral part nurses and midwives have in our healthcare system and we will continue to support them.
