📌 “A clash of the incompatible, whose fusion creates new possibilities… in hybridity there’s hope.” At MoodleMoot Australia 2024, Jack Rice, an inspirational leader in the world of education, took us on a special journey of education delivery through decades and centuries. From 1500s through to 2000s and into the future; from when truth was seen as absolute and fundamental, to becoming relative and then, contextual; from countless reforms to ongoing improvement; and from ‘achievement through competition’ to ‘human development through collaboration’. Jack’s thought provoking presentation helped us look at the student–teacher dynamic in a whole new way. We were able to envision the future where each individual learner exists in a supportive ecosystem that doesn’t end with getting a degree. Jack highlighted the importance of adapting our approaches to education and educational technologies to the philosophies and the values of the day; and assured us that intelligence can be real and artificial, simultaneously, and it’s going to be OK! Jack truly inspires us with his curiosity in both, the past and the future; and more importantly, his ability to connect the dots between history, art, culture, politics and technology, to envision new structures for our education systems where wellness, kindness and flourishing have a place. Jack is the Executive Director of the Maple League of Universities and the Director of the Centre for Online Learning, Graduate & Professional Studies at St. Francis Xavier University. ✏️ "In both, UX design and education, complex ideas often need more than words to come to life." We thoroughly enjoyed 'Sketching and How to Win at Pictionary' presentation by Teresa Watts, UX Design Lead at Moodle, at MoodleMoot Australia 2024. Sketching offers a fast, low-pressure way to visually communicate, iterate and refine ideas. This simple, low-fidelity approach enables designers, learners and educators to quickly express thoughts, work through challenges and collaborate more effectively. "Sketching together", says Teresa, "is having a shared process and a shared visual language, for quicker expression and understanding of ideas. It is a great tool for enhancing communication and teamwork." It was a very engaging and fun session with many of us having a go at our sketching talents. Thank you Teresa! #MootAU24 #moodle
