Cecil has featured in Citi's latest Global Insights Nature Report. Nature’s health is in decline, leaving our planet facing a twin climate and nature crisis. The contribution of business and finance to nature loss and their role in addressing it are increasingly coming into focus. In the Citi GPS report, they assess: - How industries impact and depend on nature across all realms - land, freshwater, oceans, atmosphere - and their revenue exposure. - Potential hotspots of conflict between industrial activities and ecologically sensitive areas. - How solutions like Cecil’s nature data platform can help companies implementing nature positive strategies. Thanks to Ying Qin, PhD, Devon Stone and the wonderful Citi team for involving us in this important research. Link to full report in comments below

Last week, we announced our partnership with Chloris Geospatial. Chloris datasets offer comprehensive insights into global biomass losses from deforestation and degradation, as well as biomass gains from vegetation growth - essential tools for companies working on reforestation: ↳ 10 m resolution, available annually since 2017. ↳ 30m resolution, available annual since 2000. At Cecil, we’re excited to streamline access to these datasets for data and science teams working to analyse, baseline, and monitor global forests at scale.

There has been an overwhelming response to the Nature Data Sharing Initiative launch last week. Another clear signal that the world needs more accessible nature data. NDSI is a collection of resources designed to promote data literacy and foster a culture of responsible, impactful data sharing. This NDSI version includes the following: - Overview: An introduction, overview, and guidance notes around nature data and Nature Practitioners’ field data; - Guide: A guide on practical steps for sharing data - Template: A data sharing worksheet and sample data sharing agreement template. If you missed the launch, you can access all NDSI resources in the comments below.

This week we are launching the Nature Data Sharing Initiative (NDSI). Most nature data is siloed in repositories and used by a very narrow audience today. Yet, if properly activated, this data could greatly improve our ability to understand and value natural ecosystems. NDSI is a collection of resources designed to promote data literacy and foster a culture of responsible, impactful data sharing. Read more about this initiative in our article.

Most nature data is siloed in repositories and used by a very narrow audience today. Yet, if properly activated, this data could greatly improve our ability to understand and value natural ecosystems. At Cecil, we believe that an equitable data sharing culture can celebrate and appropriately compensate land stewards, improve cross-sector collaboration, and lead to new insights and knowledge — ultimately raising the bar on integrity in nature markets. The NDSI includes the following resources: - an introduction, overview, and guidance notes around nature data and Nature Practitioner’s field data; - a guide on practical steps for sharing data; and - a data sharing worksheet and sample data sharing agreement template. Cecil developed these resources in collaboration with numerous industry experts. If you’d like to contribute your expertise to this initiative, please reach out to us.

Cecil recently contributed to an exciting new nature tech resource. "Integrating nature tech: a guide for businesses" is now live. It offers insights into how companies can leverage technology like AI, satellite data, and blockchain to achieve nature-positive outcomes. The report includes a case study on how Cecil's Nature Data Platform helped Foresight Natural Capital better access nature data to assess and monitor the 80 forests and c.17,000 hectares in their portfolio. We are honoured to feature alongside other inspiring nature-tech companies working hard to deliver a nature positive future including NatureMetrics, Mozaic Earth, Nala Earth, Natcap and Pivotal Future. Thank you for celebrating this important work Jen Stebbing, Lucy Almond, Nature Tech Collective , Climate Collective, KPMG and Nature4Climate. This week, we announced our partnership with Kanop. Kanop’s global screening and monitoring datasets offer comprehensive insights into canopy cover, forest biomass, and carbon equivalents - essential tools for companies working on baselining, feasibility studies, and long-term monitoring of forest assets. Screening: 25 m resolution, available annually since 2013 - used for initial assessments. Monitoring: 10 m/ 25 m resolution, starting from 2017/2013 - used for tracking forest changes over time, with recalibration options for accuracy. At Cecil, we’re excited to streamline access to these datasets for data and science teams working to to analyse, baseline, and monitor forest biomass at scale.
