About us
Central NSW Joint Organisation provides strong cohesive leadership that aligns all tiers of government to deliver our region’s community derived strategic priorities. The Central NSW Joint Organisation consists of 10 member councils – Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin. Central Tablelands Water is an Associate Member. The Board also values working with key stakeholders, importantly the NSW Government. Central NSW is a diverse area that covers around 47,000 km2 with a population estimated to be 157,686 persons (based on Office Local Government – Council statistics – 2016 Census data).

Congratulations Cr Kevin Beatty, Mayor of Cabonne Shire Council and Chair of the CNSWJO for his recent appointment as Deputy Chair of the Joint Organisation Chairs Forum.
Congratulations to our Chair, Cr Sue Moore, Mayor Singleton Council who has been appointed Chair of the NSW Joint Organisation Chairs Forum, and to Cr Kevin Beatty, Mayor of Cabonne Shire Council and Chair of Central NSW Joint Organisation, who has been appointed Deputy Chair. These appointments were made at the first meeting of the new term of the NSW JO Chairs Forum at NSW Parliament House last week. With a statutory mandate under the Local Government Act, Joint Organisations represent local councils and communities right across rural and regional NSW. The Chairs Forum brings together all NSW JO’s, along with other alliances of councils from across NSW. Its purpose is to exchange information on best practice and excellence in the pursuit of strategic regional priorities, joint advocacy and collaboration activities. Yesterday, the Central NSW Joint Organisation (CNSWJO) Board held its first quarterly meeting following the September local government elections. At the meeting, the Board elected Cr Kevin Beatty from Cabonne Shire Council as Chair and Cr Phyllis Miller OAM from Forbes Shire Council as Deputy Chair, each for a two-year term. The Board welcomed six new Mayors to the CNSWJO Board, including: Cr Bruce Reynolds from Blayney Shire Council, Cr Paul Smith from Cowra Council, Cr Cass Coleman from Lithgow City Council, Cr Andrew McKibbin from Oberon Council, Cr Tony Mileto from Orange City Council, and Cr Paul Best from Weddin Shire Council. It also welcomed back Cr Robert Taylor from Bathurst Regional Council, Cr John Medcalf OAM from Lachlan Shire Council and Cr Neil Westcott from Parkes Shire Council. The CNSWJO Board represents Central NSW communities by advocating for shared regional priorities, while also supporting individual councils in lobbying for issues specific to them. We congratulate all Board members on their recent Mayoral elections, with special congratulations to Cr Beatty and Cr Miller OAM on their appointments as Chair and Deputy Chair of the CNSWJO Board.

The Central NSW Joint Organisation welcomed the opportunity to meet with Mr Michael Wrathall as a Representative of The Hon Tanya Plibersek, Minister for the Environment and Water. CNSWJO member councils are responsible for the planning and management of quality secure water and wastewater for their communities and there can be no issue more important to the growth and prosperity of the region than water for towns and productive use. The Board has spoken to Mr Wrathall previously about aspirations for managing water in the Lachlan Valley differently to increase productivity while ensuring critical town water needs are met. With the Murray Darling Basin Plan 2 currently in development, the Board welcomed the opportunity to brief Mr Wrathall on recent work done in this space and seek his feedback.
