It was great to send a contingent from various CMW Geosciences offices to the 5th International Conference on Transport Geotechnics (ICTG 2024) in Sydney last week. From Melbourne, Jack O'Kelly and Allan Garrard presented their paper "Temporary works design innovations for major rail construction projects", co-authored by David Kolber. And from the Hamilton office, we had Harshad Phadnis present his paper "Liquefaction resistance of aged soils in the upper North Island of New Zealand and contribution of the soil behaviour type index". Andrew Websper and Anton Hamp made the trek across the Nullarbor to deliver their poster presentation on "Bi-directional load cell testing of 1.5-m diameter bored concrete piles in colluvial and alluvial deposits near the Darling Scarp: Insights from the Byford Rail Extension project" whilst Farbod Yarmohammadi from our Auckland team delivered his poster presentation on "The effect of train-induced vibrations on pore water pressure development within liquefiable soils". In addition to presenting opportunities, the conference also provided updates on where the industry is at, with useful presentations on pavement and subgrade design, railway geotechnics, port and harbour infrastructure, along with a focus on ground improvement, sensor technology, innovative techniques and materials, and sustainable geotechnical design. Multiple networking events provided time to meet with colleagues from different offices, as well as industry peers, and current and potential future clients. And an added bonus - mixing with the great and the good of the transport geotechnics community during the Gala Dinner, which included a special presentation by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) to Geo-Legend Harry Poulos 👏 #cmwgeosciences #geotechnicalengineering #engineeringgeology #transportgeotechnics #geotechnicalconsulting #UTSTRC #AGS #ISSMGE #NSW

Members from our CMW Geosciences Sydney team were kindly invited to ‘Lunch with JK Williams’ last week, an industry event which hosted key clients, supply chain partners, and consultant teams with the JK Williams' Senior Leadership Team. Whilst enjoying the amazing hospitality of a local Surrey Hills restaurant, it was wonderful to engage with peers and business leaders such as Leigh Hartog, Glenn Hartog, Scott Hartog, Guy Williams, Mark Khoury, and Craig Mills. We also had the pleasure of hearing from Phil Jones, General Manager of United Infrastructure, which is a joint venture between Burton Contractors Pty Ltd, JK Williams and Mulgoa Quarries, who discussed United Infrastructure's journey and recent project wins. A big thank you for such an informative and engaging event and we look forward to continuing our relationships with both JK Williams and United Infrastructure well into the future. #cmwgeosciences #geotechnicalengineering #engineeringgeolgoy #geotechnicalconsulting #localbusiness #infrastructureprojects

Antonio Marakis and Anthony Kielniacz represented our CMW Geosciences team at this month's Sydney Mining Club event, which featured Justin Werner, Managing Director of Nickel Industries Limited. Nickel Industries is the world’s largest listed pure nickel producer, and Justin's fascinating talk outlined the company's unique operations which enable Nickel Industries to thrive in a highly competitive and changing market. The topic was of special interest to Anthony, with 30+ years' combined minerals exploration and geophysics experience - in particular greenfields base metals under cover, near-surface geophysics for groundwater, and geotechnical engineering for infrastructure projects. As always, it was a great opportunity to discuss the issues at hand and to catch up with clients and industry partners. A big thank you to the Sydney Mining Club for organising this insightful and informative event for our industry. #cmwgeosciences #geotechnicalenengineering #engineeringgeology #geophysics #sydneyminingclub #miningexploration
