CEO Valtus Group & Managing Partner Nordic Interim Nordic Region

The success of an Executive Interim Manager depends on several key factors First, adaptability is crucial - being able to quickly understand an organization's culture, challenges, and goals allows for faster impact. Second, clear communication is essential to align teams and stakeholders around the vision and necessary changes. Finally, objective decision-making enables interim managers to implement solutions without the weight of internal politics, driving results swiftly and efficiently. A successful interim leader combines these traits to deliver value and stability during critical transitions. A CEO should consider engaging an Interim Manager in several key situations: During Leadership Gaps: If a senior executive departs unexpectedly, an interim manager can provide immediate leadership while the search for a permanent replacement takes place, ensuring continuity. Navigating a Crisis: When an organization faces a financial or operational crisis, interim managers bring specialized expertise to stabilize the situation, offering unbiased perspectives and solutions. Managing Organizational Change: In times of restructuring, mergers, or significant shifts in strategy, an interim manager can guide the transition and implement changes without the constraints of long-term commitment. Driving Specialized Projects: If the organization needs expertise for a specific initiative (e.g., digital transformation or market expansion), an interim manager with the right skills can execute efficiently and move the project forward.   #interimmanagement #executiveinterimmanagement #transitionmanagement #bestadvice

Is the cost of an Executive Interim Manager really higher than that of a permanent employee for driving complex transformations? There is often a hesitancy to engage an Interim Manager to drive large change programmes. Some are still hesitant of using an outsider for business-critical transformations, questioning whether they are truly invested in the organization and its success. Also, there is concern about the cost of an Interim Manager’s day rate compared to the costs of a permanent employee. But is the cost really higher? Not if you consider that a permanent employee is not only paid a salary, but also pension, insurances, paid holiday, and other benefits. It is also very expensive with failed recruitments as both the recruitment- and exit process are very expensive. Hiring an Interim Project Manager mostly results in lower costs for the company in overheads. Also, the costs of a failed project or programme will far exceed those of either a permanent employee or an Executive Interim Manager. With an interim Executive Program Manager, the company gets access to an experienced leader who has done similar tasks many times before, competencies that are often lacking internally. Furthermore, a professional interim Project Manager ensures that the projects are completed on time and budget, securing a successful transformation. Upon closer comparison of all the advantages, the costs for an Interim Manager are actually quite reasonable. #interimmanagement #pmo #projectmanagement

Lead Associate Partner, Interim Executive Management

It was great to hear from our very own Dr Marianne Broadbent at The Mandarin Event yesterday. Marianne shared her thoughts on how organisations can excel by 'doing more with less' amidst heightened scrutiny on spending and productivity.   Some of her key suggestions: ➡ Invest in Leadership and Talent: Marianne emphasized the critical need for investing in people leaders. By empowering leaders to grow their teams and nurture talent, we can uplift productivity across the board, especially in public service. This investment isn’t just about immediate gains; it’s about building long-term resilience. ➡ Strategic Use of Interim Executives: During periods of transition, appointing interim executives can mitigate risks and support overburdened teams. These leaders ensure continuity and maintain momentum, keeping the organisation on track during uncertain times. ➡ Don’t Cut Professional Development: One of the first things to go in tough times is often professional development, but this is incredibly short-sighted. Cutting back on development can lead to skill gaps, decreased innovation, and lower morale—ultimately harming long-term productivity. ➡ Workforce Structure Matters: the Department of Defence shift from relying on contractors to building an internal technology team was highlighted. This move not only enhanced control over capabilities but also helped to better align the workforce more closely with strategic goals. ➡ Continuity Drives Long-Term Value: Short-term appointments and constantly moving good performers to fix capability gaps might solve immediate problems, but will likely undermine long-term value by disrupting continuity. It’s crucial to balance quick fixes with strategic, long-term planning to ensure sustainable success. ➡ Hybrid Remote Work & Productivity: It is hard to back-track on conditions even if the circumstances change. The needs and suitability for hybrid and remote work will vary by organisation and industry. Productivity is driven by culture and mission, not physical location. But in many situations it is critical to ensure that people come together to enable real exchange of viewpoints, to encourage innovation and to ensure really good mentoring is in place. It was clear from the whole day that in these challenging times, strategic leadership, clear communication, and a focus on long-term goals are more important than ever.

Managing Partner International and Chief Revenue Officer at VALTUS - Expert in Executive Interim Management

This second instalment of 11 Valtus Alliance countries continues to showcase our global network’s remarkable – and sometimes surprising – performance at the Summer Olympics. 𝐉𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐍 At the 1936 Games, pole vaulters and friends Shuhei Nishida and Sueo Oe were told to compete against each other for silver and bronze. They refused, wanting to share the honours. The Japanese team was forced to choose, awarding silver to Nishida. Returning to Japan, the pair cut and fused their prizes into two hybrid medals – the “Medals of Friendship”. 𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒 Could a Dutchman take home the first Olympic gold in breaking, which debuts this year at the Paris Games? ‘B-Boy’ Menno van Gorp has won almost every major solo title there is – watch this space! 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐘 Dubbed the “Norwegian Train”, Kristian Blummenfelt is the fastest Ironman ever and the only triathlete to have held the Olympic, World Triathlon and Ironman world titles at the same time. 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐆𝐀𝐋 Bouncing back to get on track: Carlos Lopes won Portugal's first Olympic gold in the marathon at the 1984 Games, despite being hit by a car 15 days prior. 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐎𝐅 𝐊𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐀 A sharp eye: Korean archer Kim Soo-Nyung has won 6 Olympic medals since she was just 17, including 4 golds, making her one of the sport’s most decorated athletes. 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐄 Swimmer Joseph Schooling became Singapore’s first-ever gold medallist in 2016 in the 100m butterfly, defeating Michael Phelps 8 years after meeting his Olympic hero at just 13. 𝐒𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐀 A country of canoeists: Race walker Matej Tóth and trap shooter Zuzana Rehák Štefečeková are the only athletes from independent Slovakia to win gold on land rather than water at the Summer Olympics. 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍 Barcelona’s hosting of the 1992 Games is a case study of home advantage: with 26 medals (5 gold) prior to the event, the nation won 22 medals (13 gold) in 1992 alone. 𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐍 No horsing around: due to strict Australian quarantine regulations, the equestrian events at the 1956 Games in Melbourne were held in Stockholm 5 months earlier. 𝐔𝐊 Age is but a number: skateboarder Sky Brown became Britain’s youngest Olympic medallist of all time when she took bronze in Tokyo at 13 years old. 𝐔𝐒𝐀 22-year-old Margaret Abbott was studying art in Paris in 1900 when she saw an ad for a golf tournament. She entered and won, not realising she had just become the first American woman to win an Olympic event. The Olympic Games gather nations and passions – much like the Valtus Alliance, where likeminded partners form a global community based on trust and fulfilment in everything we do. Best of luck to all our partner countries and their remarkable athletes. What an honour to have the 2024 Games right on our doorstep!
