About us

Becoming an Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) is complex and demanding. One minute, you’re operating heavy machinery; the next, you’re updating manuals and published data. Convenient Aviation Advice (CAA) is where you can ask questions, get advice from other experts and join us on our journey to becoming a well-rounded ARO. We do not have all the answers, but we will find them and share the knowledge as we learn alongside our fellow AROs.

  • 🎉📅 HAPPY 2025 📅🎉 As we recover from the holiday season, we have had the pleasure of seeing a few International #airports over this break. 🇸🇬 Singapore 🇯🇵 Japan 🇺🇸 Chicago 🇭🇰 Hong Kong 🇺🇸 New York (JFK) Highlights for us obviously…. Not the rest of the city 🤣 Having an #ARO mindset is ALWAYS switched on…. We see a crane and panic, even when we aren’t near an airport 🏗️ This year, we aim to look closer at activities that an #airport #manager undertakes. NO… we don’t care about maximizing car park revenue, or vending machine locations!! It will be about document reviews, annual audits, #compliance calendars and we may also venture outside our initial scope to refueling & ground handling. As always, thanks for your discussions and feel free to submit questions. We are happy to answer them anonymously🙏🏼

  • This can happen at any airport… except maybe Antarctica.❄️ Not all aerodromes require a 📘Wildlife Hazard Management Plan according to MOS.📖 Does your port meet the triggers?? All Reporting Officers must be trained in identifying and mitigating wildlife hazards. 🐈⬛🐩🐇🐀🐿️🦊🦡🐖🫎🦬🐎🐐🐍🐝 NOT JUST BIRDS🦅🦆🦜🐥

Caught on Camera: An Air China Airbus A320-214 aircraft (B-9925), operating flight CA4539 from Chengdu (CTU), was involved in a bird strike incident with a flock of birds while landing at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport (XMN) at around 12:43 yesterday afternoon (05 December). The head-on impact while on approach to Runway 05 sent the birds deflected in different directions. Post inspection at Xiamen, the aircraft operated the return flight CA4540 to Chengdu (CTU) after few hours. #aircraft #airlines #aviation

  • 💡When reading the MOS, try to consider the intent of the 📖 statement. 🧐Ask yourself, why is that a rule, or standard, or regulation?❓ What does it achieve?❓ Meanwhile… When windy, an ARO will inspect the bottom of a 💨wind direction indicator (🧦sock). 👩🏽✈️But pilots see it from the top…. ☀️The sun also damages the top. So….. let’s have a closer look! Check all sides of your WDI and ensure its clean and not discolored…. Like this sun faded secondary one 🙏🏼

  • 😱🛩️MY TURN PAD!!🛩️😱 This happen to anyone else?? While 👨🏻✈️ #pilots 👩🏽✈️never intend to damage the #runway or #apron it happens. A slightly sharper turn than usual and rear mains🛞 (in this case) can scrub on the chip seal and damage the surface. As usual, we can only control our portion of the operation and we should focus on that. What can we do: 📝 Timely and accurate reporting. It’s not a blame game, but it tracks trends and keeps the issue front of mind. ➰ Ensure lead in / out lines are visible. If they can’t see the lines, how can they follow them? 📡 Remind pilots to make “MAX RAD” turns. A friendly reminder via radio or walk up the stairs and ask nicely if you have time. 〰️ Ensure you have some cold mix and a gympy hammer. Some areas can be rolled using a baggage tug too! If you can’t prevent it, be ready to fix it. 📕 Change notes in your manual from “turning node” to “turn pad”. They aren’t considered NODES anymore.

  • 🧐📑EDUCATION📑🧐 While we learn new things every day and have a stockpile ✨ of valuable #aerodrome information floating around our 🧠 brains, a course like this can help to connect all of these dots 💠 and create an image of the operation and our responsibilities within it. This could open your mind to why 📚 #managers make decisions and give you a peak behind the curtain to their way of thinking and additional considerations. Continuing the self #education journey as an #ARO is vital to keeping engaged, and possibly taking the next step into a #management role👩🏽🎓 And of course….why not ask your company to pay for it😜

Aviation is one of the most highly regulated industries in the world 🛫 From flight operations to ground support, this complex landscape of legal and regulatory obligations is rarely understood in its entirety by those operating solely within their own department. But having personnel with the tools to both understand and improve compliance is of benefit to every aviation organisation. ⚙ Our 4-day Managing Aviation Compliance course covers a broad spectrum of compliance obligations – not only those specific to the safety and security of air travel, but also financial, taxation, human resources (HR), data protection and general workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements that all organisations face. Here's what participants from our last Virtual course had to say: 👍 "Very well delivered course." 👌 "Very relevant content to my current role." ✍ "Practical exercises were thought provoking and required a good effort." 🤝 "I have done other Southpac courses and found the training to be excellent." The 4 day course is highly beneficial to personnel from all aviation organisations, and includes four nationally recognised units that can be used towards the BSB50920 Diploma of Quality Auditing. Check out our next Virtual course coming up from 25 - 28 November: https://lnkd.in/de4GzU7R #aviation #compliance
