🎉 A first for Australia: Every government service in Canberra is now accessible to Deaf residents! By scanning QR codes, Deaf Canberrans can now connect with government services through Convo Auslan interpreters at any service centre - no booking needed. This initiative represents our commitment to building a more inclusive Canberra. Thanks DeafACT, Access Canberra and Minister Cheyne for collaborating with us!
Access Canberra is making its service more accessible with new Auslan interpreting services now available. 💜 The Auslan interpreting service helps support Canberrans who may be deaf or hard of hearing. The service, part of a 12-month trial, is available across all Access Canberra Service Centres, with staff members completing a Deaf awareness training. The service is free and can be accessed by simply scanning a QR code with your device, allowing seamless communication between the customer service officer and the individual. The service, called Convo Access, is provided by Convo Australia. Convo Access is part of making Access Canberra more inclusive. Some services that are already in place include the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative, language diversity support, bookable appointments and weekly quiet hours.
