A new report by The Australia Institute highlights a significant gap in federal road funding for #activetransport #infrastructure, noting that less than 1% of this funding is allocated for #bicycles and scooters. To boost active transport the report recommends: 🚲 Increasing funding for active transport to at least 10% of road-related expenditure 🚲 Introducing a tax-deductible mileage allowance for #cycling to work 🚲 Implementing trade-in schemes for internal combustion engine cars to switch to #electricvehicles, #eBikes or public transport 🚲 Legalizing private #eScooters nationwide with appropriate regulations 🚲 Subsidizing e-bike purchases Poll results show strong public support for these initiatives, with a majority favouring increased infrastructure, a cycling mileage allowance, and subsidies for e-bikes.

As cities globally seek to enhance livability and #sustainability, cars have become a central focus. Many European cities are redesigning streets to limit vehicle access, creating more spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Nordic countries exemplify this approach with initiatives like Oslo’s car-free Livability Programme and Denmark’s #bikefriendly #infrastructure. These models highlight how Australian cities can improve social, health and environmental outcomes for all residents through inclusive #urbanplanning and a focus on #activetransport. ➡ https://lnkd.in/g8Z3csw7

The concept of integrating micro-mobility, last-mile delivery and #cyclinginfrastructure presents a pivotal opportunity for Australia and cities globally. By embracing these innovations, urban areas can become cleaner, more efficient and better connected. Government commitment and investment in infrastructure is essential for supporting #micromobility and #cycling options, ensuring safety and #accessibility. Business innovation is key as companies develop #sustainable solutions that complement these modes of transport, enhancing their viability. #PublicAdoption and engaging the community to adopt new transportation habits is crucial for the success of these initiatives. The future of #transportation is here, and it’s on two wheels — or perhaps, even three.

Denmark, is a country known for its #cyclingculture, so much so, that it even has #cyclingfriendly garbage bins. For avid #cyclers, getting rid of trash while on the go can be arduous. Denmark found a solution with their cycling-friendly garbage bins. They are lifted off the ground and tilted towards the cyclist, allowing one to dispose of trash without stopping. #bikesidebins #cyclinginnovation ➡ https://lnkd.in/dPnxAQGY

An Australian lad has successfully set the fastest time #cycling around #Australia, completing the feat in 30 days, nine hours and 59 minutes. Lachlan Morton faced brutal headwinds, extreme temperatures, dangerous traffic and even an encounter with a kangaroo to beat the previous record set in 2011. #cyclinginspiration #cycinlinginAustralia ➡ https://lnkd.in/gri5UDNd
