Our South Australia team hosted their very first Girls Chat 🎀 Youth Advisory Group — a safe and supportive environment for young women with a care experience to discuss issues that matter to them. “I was too scared to ask for period products because I didn’t want to feel like a burden.” One young woman said. Another said, “When I turned 15, they stopped buying me pads and told me to use my Centrelink money.” And another shared, “One time, I was in my room getting changed, and a male carer walked in without knocking.” These were some of the things shared by the group of 11 young women ❤️🩹 After exploring what supports they needed to feel empowered, social worker and makeup artist, Isabella Furnari shared makeup tips and tricks with the group, focused on embracing their unique style. Each participant received a special gift pack with mascara, a makeup brush, lip and cheek blush, skincare products, a hairbrush, and more to take home with them. CREATE would like to thank Good360 Australia, MECCA Brands and Priceline Pharmacy for donating to the giftpacks for such an important purpose 💜

Today is World Care Day & this year's theme is “Celebrating Every Journey.” This year resonates to me because myself and my sister recently found out we have another sibling who is currently in state care. 💜 After talks with the Department, we have started:  - Phone calls every day (we started at once a fortnight then progressed to weekly) - We have a visit coming up where we will spend a week with her and she will stay with us - She knows exactly where she comes from and who her family is 💖 Despite all the trauma & obstacles this little girl has gone through while also juggling her being on the spectrum for Autism 💚🧡💜❤️💖 she is so resilient, smart & such a beautiful little girl.   I am so so proud of her & will continue to love, cherish & forever be thankful for her existence. I can’t wait to finally be able to bring her home." Today is World Care Day – a day to honour the strength, resilience, and journeys of children and young people in care. At MacKillop Institute, we support schools and organisations in creating environments where young people feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive—because every journey matters. This year’s theme, ‘Celebrating Every Journey’, highlights the voices of children and young people in care. At MacKillop Family Services, they have shared their journeys through art—expressing what’s meaningful to them and offering the wider community a glimpse into life in care through their eyes. 💬 “Snakes: A symbol of transformation, they teach us how vital it is to shed what no longer serves us. Snakes must literally shed or die. As painful as it is, letting go of what restricts us can allow us to survive, grow, and thrive. Today is #WorldCareDay25! And we are celebrating the voices of young people with a care experience. Last year, the CREATE Foundation brought together an incredible group of young people for a special Songwriting Workshop led by local rapper Riley P. Listen to their song, "We want more".
