🚨 Cyber Security Wake-Up Call: The Legal Precedent Businesses Can't Ignore 🚨 In a landmark decision, a recent Western Australian court ruling has set a powerful precedent: businesses can now be held legally accountable for falling victim to cybercrime. Inoteq Pty Ltd was ordered to pay $190,000 after failing to verify fraudulent bank details in an invoice scam. This decision signals a seismic shift: businesses may now face legal liability for failing to safeguard against Business Email Compromise (BEC) and invoice fraud. For victims, it sets a precedent for holding negligent companies accountable. For businesses, it’s a stark warning. The duty of care is clear: protect your customers and partners, or face the consequences. At a bare minimum, to mitigate BEC scams, businesses must: ▪️Implement robust password management—utilise a recognised password manager and train staff on best practices for both corporate and personal accounts. ▪️ Enforce strong multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all email accounts. ▪️Establish clear verification processes for all financial transaction change requests and ensure staff do not deviate from them. ▪️Regularly train staff to recognise phishing attempts and suspicious emails, equipping them to spot red flags. The cost of inaction is no longer just a potential loss—it’s a legal liability. How confident are you that your company’s cyber security measures would stand up in court? #CyberSecurity #BEC #InvoiceFraud #eftsure #DutyOfCare #Leadership https://lnkd.in/g2mDJaXR

Thanks, #TechDiversity, for the mention and the consistent support of our program. Advancing diversity in all tech workforces, including cyber security, is essential. We were proud to collaborate with you to spread awareness of our program to those who could benefit the most and take pride in the fact that we were able to provide tangible pathways to those looking to enter the industry, many of whom were from traditionally under-represented communities in the field. Seeing many program graduates land genuine roles in the industry has been truly rewarding. Thank you again, TechDiversity, for all you do to advance diversity and equality in tech! We highly recommend working with TechDiversity and sponsoring the TechDiversity awards if you want to support an organisation that is truly advocating and advancing diversity and inclusion in all tech workforces across Australia. Seeing and learning about all the incredible initiatives, organisations and individuals working on advancing DEI within tech through these awards was genuinely inspiring. #partnership #sponsorship #diversityintech #cybersecurity #cyber #dei
We believe sponsorship is more than just logos on banners—it's about creating meaningful partnerships that drive purpose and impact. Last Awards, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Cyber Skills Enrichment Program (Cyber Audit Team) and Griffith University as part of their sponsorship. Together, we co-created powerful content that amplified the inspiring stories of individuals participating in their 12-week Cyber Skills Enrichment Program, designed to equip learners with practical skills to enter the cyber security industry. For us, this was the perfect match. By aligning with their purpose-driven work, we were able to showcase the transformative power of their program and bring these stories to our vast and engaged network. Every partnership we build starts with a conversation—exploring roadmaps, goals, and shared visions for the future. Whether it’s co-creating content, supporting initiatives, or aligning with your ESG commitments, we ensure our sponsors gain genuine value and impact through the TechDiversity platform. We’re not just here to celebrate diversity—we’re here to create it, amplify it, and share it. If your organisation is looking to align purpose with opportunity, let’s talk about how we can create something extraordinary together for 2025.
