Last month, our General Manager, Shane Katauskas, engaged with SEG representatives and Indigenous Business Enterprises (IBEs) to discuss their valuable contributions during co-design activities for the #DefenceEstate. It was great to be part of such an important and impactful conversation.
Working with Indigenous Business Enterprises to advance SEG’s approach to Indigenous Procurement 📣 Last month, SEG representatives met with Indigenous Business Enterprises (IBEs) to discuss the valuable contributions from IBEs throughout co-design activities on the #DefenceEstate. #IndigenousBusinessMonth Through co-design, Defence has modified our procurement processes and emphasises IBE engagement and participation for potential opportunities. An Indigenous participation schedule is now technically evaluated as part of all tenders. Further details will be discussed at the Defence Industry Briefing on 28 November - https://lnkd.in/gJPsvMkQ The inclusion of this new schedule marks the recognition of IBEs and the value they bring to the #DefenceEstate. Thank you to TVN On-Country, NACP Projects Australia, Biodiversity Australia, Nguluway DesignInc, Birubi Australia, DDR Australia, WSU Civil and Intract Australia who participated in SEG’s discussions to continue IBE collaboration and to build a more diverse and inclusive supply chain. Our Aboriginal Engagement and Mentoring Manager, Peter Cox, recently participated in the First Nations Clean Energy Network’s PowerMakers program. This initiative explored how Aboriginal communities can benefit economically from clean energy projects while offering incredible opportunities to connect with inspirational leaders. Read more of Peter’s insights in the post!
I have a real passion for creating opportunities for Aboriginal people and supporting community. That’s Noongar man Peter Cox talking, from the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region. Peter currently works with DDR Australia as the Aboriginal Engagement and Mentoring Manager. Peter says, "Being a majority-owned Aboriginal business, we understand the importance of early engagement with Traditional Owner groups to ensure maximum outcomes for the communities we operate in, with a focus on employment and developing local businesses. "There are a few reasons for me attending the First Nations Clean Energy Networks PowerMakers program. "Firstly, there is a business agenda. DDR Australia are a successful national construction business, and we are looking into opportunities in the renewable energy sector. "Secondly, I am a father of 4 and passionate about preserving and improving the lands on which we live for our future generations. "First Nations people have always lived as one with nature and we understand that renewable energy projects combined with Aboriginal and Torres Strait knowledge will bring maximum benefits for all Australians. "PowerMakers has given me an understanding of how my people can benefit economically from clean energy projects, and provided an amazing opportunity to network with some truly inspirational people. "I loved hearing everyone’s stories and where they’re at with clean energy projects and how they are positively impacting their communities. "I’m so grateful for the opportunity to attend PowerMakers and really excited to be a part of the renewable energy transition." So good you were at PowerMakers Peter!

Our General Manager, Shane Katauskas, recently attended the Kwinana Major Project Conference in WA, exploring growth opportunities in the Kwinana Industrial Area. The event offered valuable insights on the future of sustainable energy—an exciting path forward for DDR and the industry!
Mark attended the Kwinana Major Project Conference this week to gain insights on the growth opportunities in the Kwinana Industrial Area, which supports around 40,000 jobs and contributes to about 1% of Australia’s GDP. Key highlights included Hazer Group Limited's insights on their Hydrogen and Graphitic Carbon plant, Shannon O’Rouke's case for sovereign battery production, and Patrick Seares on Westport's design options and business case. It was also great to hear from Kurt Baker from Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) on the challenges overcome in the Collie Battery Energy Storage System project, which SITECH WA supplied GPS machine guidance for. Mark enjoyed the plentiful networking opportunities and connecting with fellow industry professionals, including Shane from DDR Australia as pictured here. Overall, a valuable experience for understanding the future of Kwinana and its role in sustainable energy!
