Australia deserves high-tech, affordable, green cities that are inspiring and safe.

About us

We’re here because we believe cities should be built with the people who live in them, not just for them. When communities have a real say in shaping their surroundings, cities become more than just places - they become spaces of connection, pride, and inspiration. We bring this to life by partnering directly with communities and local organisations. Instead of a top-down approach, we invite people to co-create the future of their neighbourhoods. By combining community input with innovative design, we make sure each project is a true reflection of those who call it home. Our work focuses on enhancing urban spaces across Australia, integrating green, affordable, and high-tech solutions that are built to last. From revitalising city centres to transforming empty spaces, we’re committed to creating places where people feel connected, safe, and inspired. Together we can transform this country - one tree, one street, one city at a time.

Updates

  • This week, Mitch had the privilege of meeting with Thomas Emerson MLA, Fiona Carrick MLA, Jo Clay MLA, and the Cohousing Canberra Co-Presidents Richard Etherington and Graham Anderson to discuss plans for a demonstration cohousing development in Watson. At Demobia, we believe that cities should be more than just places to live – they should inspire, connect, and thrive. The Watson project is a fantastic example of how community-driven development can align innovation, accessibility, and sustainability to create truly inclusive spaces. There are challenges ahead, but it’s great to see policymakers recognising the potential of projects like this and pushing for the changes needed to make them a reality. Looking forward to sharing updates as we progress in the coming months. #urbanplanning #canberra #affordablecities

Great to meet with newly appointed Minister Suzanne Orr now leading the Climate Change, Environment, Energy, and Water portfolio. We discussed the Minister’s urban greening ambitions, inc the ACT Government’s target of 30% tree canopy cover by 2045, and how the general public can be part of this transformation through the Microforest Collective. We’re proud to be part of this growing movement of community-led development and civic action. The momentum is definitely building - and I’m all in. #sustainability #urbangreening #greencities

  • Australia deserves high-tech, affordable, and green cities that are both inspiring and safe. Through community-driven development, we can achieve more than just greener cities - we can create spaces that enrich lives and make the process of shaping them rewarding and fun. Check out the visual slides from Mitch Porteous’ recent TEDxCanberra talk, brought to life by the talented Gavin Blake. In the talk, Mitch delved into this vision, sharing how collaboration and good systems can transform our urban future. #tedx #canberra

Well, Friday nights aren’t what they used to be. Concerned about the Online Safety Amendment Bill 2024 - which has bipartisan support and was rushed through with just one day for public submissions - I’ve made sure to get mine in... Every voice counts after-all! If introduced, this bill could have massive implications for all of us. You’re welcome to have a read of my submission, or better yet, there might still be time to share your own feedback. To make a submission, head here: https://lnkd.in/gxHtTxUK

Congratulations to Edwina Robinson, Mitch Porteous, Liz Adcock and Purdie Bowden for getting the Microforest Collective off the ground. Today’s launch at the Watson Microforest was packed! 👏 The climate crisis, mental health crisis and biodiversity crisis are deeply interrelated. I see them as crises of connection – none of which can be turned around in isolation. We need to find ways to reconnect with each other, with the natural world, and with ourselves. Community-led projects like these micro forests offer opportunities for us to start doing that. Local solutions for global problems 🌱
