AI Adopt centre SAAM have published a report on how small to medium business perceive and experience AI. SAAM aims to make safe AI easy for businesses, and this report will help them build a set of simple online tools and practical resources to enable Australian SMEs to safely adopt AI.
AI is exceeding expectations for Australian small businesses, but adoption barriers remain a challenge. A new report “In their words: perspectives and experiences of SMEs using AI” by the UTS Human Technology Institute, as part of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources-funded SAAM project, has provided insight into how and why SMEs are using AI, and when and why they may not be. (see report here: https://lnkd.in/g688-HWH) The report, based on a survey of Australian SMEs, shows that generative AI solutions such as ChatGPT and Copilot are among the most popular with Australian SMEs, that knowledge limitation is the biggest barrier to uptake, and concerns about AI hallucination and data accuracy continue to be a factor. This report will be used by the SAAM consortium of elevenM, UTS Human Technology Institute, the ACS (Australian Computer Society), Atlassian, KPMG Australia, Microsoft and TDC Global to help inform the development of tools and resources to support SME uptake of AI. SAAM is one of four AI Adopt centres funded by the Commonwealth Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources.
