National Water Safety Day 2024: A Timely Reminder to Stay Safe Around Water Last year 41% of all drowning deaths occurring during the summer months. As we head into another busy, hot summer, Royal Life Saving Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia are rolling out safety campaigns to prevent drowning and keep communities safe. To address these challenges, we are rolling out targeted safety campaigns: 📢 Surf Life Saving Australia’s “Stop. Look. Stay Alive.” campaign targets risk-taking behaviour, particularly among men, and encourages safer choices at the beach. The campaign is complemented by Beach Passport (beachpassport.org.au) – a free, online training platform designed to equip all ages with essential water safety knowledge. 📢 Royal Life Saving Australia’s “Make the Right Call” campaign highlights the dangers of inland waterways, including hidden currents and debris. Men are encouraged to avoid going alone, wear lifejackets, and avoid alcohol around water. 📢 Royal Life Saving Australia’s “Keep Watch” campaign reminds parents of the vital importance of constant supervision around water to prevent child drowning.
