The Detector Inspector team (300 people to be exact!) came together in style for our 2024 End-of-Year Tropical Fiesta at the vibrant Moon Dog Brewery Doglands. It was an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, celebration and recognition as co-Managing Directors Jason and Jordan presented the Detector Inspector Values Awards (DIVA) to our incredible office and field staff. A huge congratulations to all our 'DIVA's' who live and breath our core values everyday and the entire Detector Inspector family for an amazing 2024. Here's to an even brighter 2025!

Meet Ethan, Gas Service Technician and proud graduate of Detector Inspector's Apprenticeship Program. Over the past four years, Ethan has tackled it all—installing and repairing gas appliances like hot water units and cooktops, as well as handling tasks like fixing dishwashers and taps—drawing on the extensive knowledge and skills he developed during his training. Speaking about his apprenticeship experience Ethan said, "I had a really positive experience during my apprenticeship. I got to work with a lot of different plumbers, which helped me pick up heaps of tips and tricks of the trade. Plus, I had the chance to work all over Melbourne and visit places I’d never been before. Overall, it was a fantastic learning experience." Today, the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gabrielle Williams, announced new reforms requiring rental providers to conduct smoke alarm checks annually and gas and electrical safety checks every two years for all rental properties, regardless of when the lease began. This reform strengthens existing regulations by closing a loophole that previously excluded properties with rental agreements signed before March 29, 2021, from mandatory safety checks. The changes follow the tragic death of a 52-year-old man in 2022, who lost his life while trying to escape a fire in his rental apartment. The Coroner was unable to confirm whether a smoke alarm was present in the property. These reforms make it clear: all rental properties are now subject to mandatory safety check requirements.
