We were absolutely thrilled to recently have the chair of the Pearcey Foundation Wayne Fitzsimmons visit our Diraq lab and present our CEO Andrew Dzurak with his 2024 Pearcey Hall of Fame plaque. Wayne also had a tour of UNSW Engineering facilities including the ARC Centre for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology and The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). Prior to this when I was an A/Prof at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, I was already collaborating with, what is now, Diraq’s team. In this fantastic album, Quanta, Gilberto Gil magically ties together the Platonic, ethereal world of Quantum Physics to the very human, telluric expression of Bossa Nova. Quanta mixes influences from Native Brazilian, African and Jazz expressions to create a complex yet soothing album that played a huge role in my formation as a child. Quanta came out in 1997, when I was starting to study Physics in school and getting hooked. We wrapped up the final day of #Q2B24SV with a great panel discussion on the New Faces.
