The CIM | Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum's Capital Projects Symposium in Toronto, Canada, came to a successful close last week, leaving us inspired by the valuable discussions about the evolution of our industry and technical advancements in mining. Last Thursday, our Johannesburg office was buzzing with energy as we hosted the SAIMM YPC Young Professionals Council Student Debate, part of the 2024 YPC Month. Students from the University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand passionately discussed "What needs to be done to address employment opportunities and retention of young professionals in the mining and minerals industry?" Key themes such as #mentorship, job creation, and promoting the #mining sector were explored in-depth. Special thanks to Antonio da Gama Teixeira for serving as a judge and sharing valuable insights with the participants. This marks the second time DRA has hosted this debate, and it was a tremendous success, with contributions from Minopex, SENET, and LSL Consulting adding value to the discussions. We’re proud to support initiatives that inspire and shape the future of young professionals in our industry.
