ICYMI - It has been two weeks since #TayTay rolled into town with hoards of #Swifties descending on Sydney Olympic Park. Luckily, Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) was ready to keep fans safe over the biggest four day event since the 2000 Olympic Games - using #AI to understand and respond to crowd moods and movements! Our #SmartNSW team is proud to have funded and supported this pilot for over 12 months. It really is a great demonstration of #TechnologyForGood. The pilot: 🙂 🙁 Uses aggregated reads of frowns and smiles from existing CCTV footage and combines this with weather data and social media feeds to understand crowd mood and movement 📈 Provides insights to the operations team at SOPA to help them keep the crowd safe and provide a positive experience. This can include redirecting people away from crowded spaces or providing live updates to fans. 🔐 Uses advanced privacy protections and went through NSW Govt's rigorous AI Assurance process. ℹ Is supported by on-site signs and an international communication standard known as Digital Trust for Places and Routines (#DTPR) ... the first use of this trust tool in the Southern Hemisphere. The technology used in this pilot was developed by Dynamic Crowd Measurement in NSW with the support of the NSW Government. About 320,000 people attended Taylor Swift’s concerts at Sydney Olympic Park. These are huge numbers in terms of crowd control 🤯 A few years ago - I recall signing off on a Digital Restart Fund (DRF) proposal - to pilot the use of AI tech - to help improve public safety👍 The trial was rigorously assessed by the NSW Government’s AI Assurance Framework to ensure it was ethical and delivered real benefits to the community without compromising privacy or data security ✅ The AI tech was recently used in the Taylor Swift concerts ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gKtUPSj5 4 key takeaways: 1️⃣ the DRF agile funding model enables more ideas to be seeded and helps cultivate a culture of innovation 2️⃣ the use of pilots are so important to obtaining a social licence and de-risking delivery 3️⃣ the responsible use of AI using the AI assurance framework is critical to building trust 4️⃣ the outcome is a win for enhanced public safety whilst still preserving individual privacy ✅🙏 #AI generated image - using DaVinci - my prompt: “Taylor Swift in an uncontrollable crowd”.
