About us

Too many primary school children go hungry, directly affecting their ability to concentrate, engage and enjoy school. Even those who are not readily identified as “disadvantaged” can go hungry. Eat Up is an Australian not-for-profit that helps feed hungry kids. We partner with existing organisations to create a new service that provides healthy lunches for children at no cost. This simple but powerful project is helping to ensure some of the most vulnerable children in our community are having their basic nutritional needs met.

If you could build your dream sandwich, what’s going in it? 🥪 Next Tuesday, the Seisma team is rolling up our sleeves to make 1,000 sandwiches for Eat Up Australia, helping ensure disadvantaged school kids don’t go hungry. But before we get to work, we asked our colleagues what they would be putting in their ultimate sandwich. The office responses did not disappoint… almonds?! 🤨 As for me? I’m all about a tuna sandwich 🙌 What’s your go-to sandwich? Drop it in the comments below, I promise we won’t judge 🙊 #EatUp #Seisma #MakingADifference #GivingBack #FoodForThought #SandwichDebate

  • A massive thanks to Women Veterans Network Australia - (WVNA) who this year made close to 20,000 sandwiches for Eat Up supported schools in the Townsville area! 🥪 🙌 They also coined the term 'Sammie Sessions' which we love! Thanks so much to all the amazing veterans and community members for your support this year! 🙏

Wellness Wednesday "Sammie Session" Wrap-up: A Year of Making a Difference Our Women Veterans Network Townsville group has had an incredible year of service, with our recent Sammie Session producing close to 2,000 sandwiches for Eat Up Australia. This is part of the nationwide initiative to provide free sandwiches to schoolchildren who come to school without lunch—an issue that has only become more pressing as families face rising living costs. Hunger at school can significantly affect children’s well-being, leading to fatigue, poor concentration, and even behavioural problems, which ultimately contribute to learning difficulties and a widening educational gap. The impact of our work has been felt far and wide, as Eat Up is the only national organisation providing free lunches to students across Australia, and with the current economic pressures, we are now making up to 30% more sandwiches than before. Our Sammie Sessions have brought together a diverse group of veterans from across Townsville. From recently retired veterans to Vietnam veterans, WRAAC members, NASHOs, and long-term retired personnel, we’ve seen a wonderful mix of backgrounds and experiences. The tri-service banter between Navy, Army and Air Force veterans keeps the atmosphere lively and full of camaraderie. Alongside our veterans, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming community members—neighbours, spouses, relatives, and those with connections to the defence and veteran communities. These sessions aren’t just about making sandwiches—they’re about building connections, strengthening support networks, and ensuring that veterans and their families are aware of the resources available in Townsville. Transitioning from the military is an ongoing journey, and it’s crucial to start preparing for that transition as soon as you enlist. Knowledge is power, and together, we can make a lasting impact in our community. This session was especially meaningful as we had the opportunity to collaborate with Queensland Correctional Services, welcoming six women from the Townsville Women's Low Custody Correctional Centre. Their participation in the Sammie Session added even more depth to our community effort, and we are grateful for the chance to work together. This was our final Sammie Session for 2024, and we’re proud to share that our volunteers have made close to 20,000 sandwiches this year alone for Townsville schools. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and heart into ensuring that school kids in need have something to eat at lunchtime. Your support is truly making a difference. We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings as we continue to support our local community and veterans alike. #sammiesession #eatup #everyoneneedsasister Eat Up Australia Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs RSL Queensland RSL Australia Gwen Cherne Kahlil Scarf Fegan DSC, AM Phillip Thompson OAM MP Women in Defence Association The Oasis Townsville
