We champion Tasmanian seasonal food

About us

We straddle the space between Tasmanian consumers (eaters) and our food industry. Together we can encourage Tasmanians to enjoy more seasonal Tasmanian food and reduce food waste at home. Eat Well Tasmania champions and promotes the eating of seasonal Tasmanian food. Working closely with industry and government, our goal is to bring more delicious seasonal Tasmanian food to Tasmanians. At Eat Well Tasmania we engage positively with food, agriculture and aligned industries. This is good for consumers and supports local jobs and livelihoods. We believe that eating seasonally in Tasmania is easy and affordable as well as delicious and nutritious. Follow us on social media @eatwelltasmania We invite industry to collaborate with us to deliver innovative and engaging projects that deliver co-benefits. Please get in touch.

  • Let’s eat together. Let’s eat it all. Simple tenants that shaped our recent community dinner, ‘eat it all’. The evening brought together everyday eaters, students, community groups, farmers and producers to celebrate Tasmanian food and learn some simple, tasty solutions to eating well at home and reducing food waste. Balkan tunes and jazz rhythms accompanied the clatter of cutlery as about 200 people tucked into bowls of steaming herby-rice and piles of seasonal greens, fermented forgotten vegetables and malty-apple pudding. A menu curated by our event culinary lead and champion food waste advocate Tom Wescott. The eat it all dinner was a partnership between Eat Well Tasmania and @Tasmanianstudentassociation and funded via @healthyTasmania and @cityofhobart Anna Reynolds University of Tasmania Carl Saunder Libby Mckay . . . #TheGreatUnWaste #TurnFoodWasteAround #TooGoodToWaste https://lnkd.in/gcaYtZjm

  • May is here- which means it's our Plate With A Mate Month!! We know eating together creates healthy, resilient communities and our Plate With A Mate program is encouraging Tasmanians to get together and share a plate of healthy, local seasonal food.   During the month of May we’re encouraging everyday eaters, workplaces, sporting clubs, schools —all Tasmanians— to get your mates together, share a meal and check-in with each other. Plate With a Mate day is scheduled for Friday 24th May....but we are encouraging everyone to choose any day this month to get involved:   You can find recipes, resources for holding your own Plate With a Mate event — plus stories about the power of mateship at https://lnkd.in/gZVYfYS4    #PlateWithAMate

  • Eating together creates healthy, resilient communities. Our Plate With A Mate program is providing Tasmanians with a space to share a plate of healthy, local seasonal food.   When we share food, we share more than food; the knowledge, skills and mate-ship that underpins eating together often makes these gatherings less about the food and more about what — and who — surrounds them.   That many meals in Tasmania are eaten alone, even when living with others, means the opportunity to sit down together and enjoy a meal can be rare. This coming May we’re encouraging everyday eaters, workplaces, sporting clubs, schools —all Tasmanians— to get your mates together, share a meal and check-in with each other.   You can find recipes, resources for holding your own Plate With a Mate event — plus stories about the power of mateship at eatwelltas.org.au   Making time for and joining in communal meals is perhaps one of the single most important things we can do – both for our own health and wellbeing and for that of our wider community.   Thanks to our friends at @farzi_hobart @staychatty @bluelinelaundry and Healthy Tasmania for lending their voices and engaging with their communities to celebrate #PlateWithAMate Month this coming May

  • On the eve of the Tasmanian State Election, Eat Well Tasmania would like to acknowledge the commitments made by the two major parties. As representatives of the Tasmanian Food Security Coalition we stand with our partners on calling for whoever forms government tomorrow to prioritise a food secure Tasmania with greater focus and investment into the sector. We aspire to seeing all Tasmanians having access to fresh, healthy, local produce everyday. Our partners at Loaves and Fishes Tasmania have provided a summary of all commitments from the three major parties: https://lnkd.in/d4NwVYzs
