Congratulations Gout Gout for such a huge achievement👏🏽👏🏽 An inspiration to many young people in our communities! Elijah Buol OAM, MAICD
Chief Executive Officer- Act for Peace, Chairperson, Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland and 2019 Queensland Local Hero of the Year
Always a feel good to be part of a history making! Today, I witnessed a history being made by Gout Gout at Australian All School Championships In 20.04-seconds, 16-year-old Gout Gout broke the athletics history as Australia's fastest ever man over 200m, breaking Peter Norman’s Australian record of 20.06 from the 1968 Olympic Games. “The oldest record in the books is gone”. Congratulation to his Coach Diane Sheppard. Diane (Di) is a Legend behind many young people success including my son and daughter! I am very proud. Gout Gout win gave me opportunity for an interview today with Channel 7sport on what does this mean to me and many African Australians.

ECCQ welcomes the recently announced Queensland Health Department’s commitment of $3million in funding over the next for years in support of Mater Refugee and Multicultural Health Service’s Asylum Seeker GP Clinic. As the freshly appointed Chair of the Refugee Health Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) QLD, I welcome any initiative and support from the Queensland Government to help the multicultural health sector as we develop strategic responses designed to meet the complex health needs of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers living in Queensland. It is through this type of leadership that we can truly progress the actions in the Refugee Health and Wellbeing Policy and Action Plan 2022-2027.
