Ambiguity can create anxiety. Clear expectations can create confidence. To ensure all students understand what is required of them and can take responsibility for their behaviour, it's essential to establish clear expectations, whether students are learning individually, in pairs, in small groups, or as a whole class. The short video below provides an overview and some examples of what we mean by setting behaviour expectations for completing learning. A full-length video is also available and provides real-world examples of how to go about setting behaviour expectations at primary and secondary school levels. You’re probably all very familiar with rubrics as common assessment tools. But did you know that AERO offers rubrics outlining capabilities for both formative assessment and explicit instruction which align with our practice guides in these areas? ▶ For teachers: Use these rubrics for self-reflection to assess how well you’re implementing formative assessment and explicit instruction practices. Identify clear, actionable steps to enhance your teaching. ▶ For school leaders: Utilise the rubrics to record evidence, reflect on practices, and plan for whole-school improvement and reporting. 🔍 Our latest synthesis of available evidence reveals some promising approaches for improving regional and remote access to early childhood education. Four approaches were found to be promising: • government provision • targeted funding • home-based delivery • school-based services. A further 4 approaches – online delivery, mobile delivery, employer-supported ECEC, and nature-based delivery – also showed emerging potential. The success of these approaches depends on sustainable funding, qualified staff and genuine community engagement. One size doesn't fit all – solutions must be tailored to local needs. Revisiting learning is the key to consolidating knowledge. By regularly reviewing content, students strengthen their long-term memory, making it easier to recall and apply what they’ve learned. This practice not only enhances understanding but also equips students to tackle complex problems effectively. Find how to integrate effective review strategies in our latest practice guide. https://lnkd.in/g2eXe3sq #EducationResearch #AERO #RevistAndReview

School attendance isn't just about choosing to show up – it's influenced by many interconnected factors that affect students, families and communities differently. By understanding these challenges, schools and communities can develop support strategies to help improve attendance. Our new report – ‘School attendance: New insights from AERO’ – draws on rigorous studies to identify approaches demonstrated to be effective in supporting attendance and addressing absence. We have organised these identified approaches using the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework, to help assist schools with understanding what works, how best to allocate resources and how to make informed choices based on the data available.
